Editorial Reviews

About the Author

First and foremost, I'm a wife to an amazing man, and mother to a 2 year old little boy. I love to read when I can find the time, my Kindle is my best friend. I've read tons and tons of books. One of my favorite authors is Diana Gabaldon, her Outlander series is absolutely amazing. I also really enjoy Charlaine Harris' True Blood series. I'll read anything supernatural, I've blown through most of the good YA series' that are out there. I think my love of reading really helped me branch out into writing.

Lisa's review of
Mark of the Witch
By Jessica Gibson

I have gotten to know Jessica Gibson over several weeks and I was privileged to get a ARC of her first book called Mark of the Witch. Let me tell you I have a newfound respect for her as a person, story-teller and over all great writer. She took me on a amazing, and intensive story. She took the time developing her characters so that you couldn't help wanting to know their wants, desires, hopes, and dreams. Each character is a main intricate part there are no supporting characters. They meld together seamlessly. Their is Jillian and Caroline who are twin sisters, both witches by birthright only Jillian has embraced her legacy. There is the very handsome and mysterious William who seems to have a instant connection to Jillian. Then here is Katya and Nic who are old friends of Williams, they are a married couple. Through this journey there are forces out there that threaten to destroy what they are developing. A lot of self examination is done along with learning about ones past and family legacies. Each one of these amazing characters are given gifts that can protect each other. This is a definite must read I couldn't put he book down and when it was ended I was so disappointed because I grew to want more story. I have to let you in on a little secret I was able to get a ARC of book 2, Chasing of the Witch and that one continues on with the story but becomes more intense and intriguing. More secrets are revealed and you will not want to stop. Thank you Jessica for allowing me into your creative and very talented mind. I was lucky enough to receive a copy for an honest review.

3.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing from the beginning August 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
If I had to pick just one genre to read for the rest of my life, it would have to be fantasy stories about magic. The potential for the story to go in any direction is thrilling and keeps me turning the pages every time.

Mark of the Witch by Jessica Gibson was no different. It was intriguing from the beginning and I enjoyed the ease of the witches with their magic. The setup at the beginning of the story drew me in and made me want to know more both about the characters and what was to come.

The characters were not too complicated and moved forward in the story at a nice pace. The love story between William and Jilly adds a fair amount of tension and intrigue as well. The sub-plot between Jilly and her twin sister, Caroline, held a lot of promise for interesting plot twists.

If I had one wish for this book, it would be more development of the story. Gibson sets up several opportunities for things to go terribly wrong or spin out of control and keep the reader begging for more. I think in a couple of places she let the opportunity for excitement slide. There are a few good twists that kept me on the edge of my seat and wondering how it could possibly end well. With that exception this was a wonderful story and I will be looking forward to the next book in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining and unique! June 3, 2012

I read Mark of the witch almost in one sitting (I had to sleep around 3am lol). It was very entertaining and I loved it! In some way I was reminded of Practical Magic, ONLY because the twin sisters were witches, one named Jilly and one that came home from a break up with a guy. That's were the similarities ended though. The magic was well thought through and enjoyable. The plot was fun and I couldn't wait to find out what happened. I have and would recommend this book to everyone looking for a fun book. It was very clean with no "adult scenes" (except kissing and some thoughts or dreams but still clean). I totally love it and even though this book can stand alone with no cliffhanger, I can't wait for book two. Jessica Gibson is a fun storyteller and I look forward to more of her work!

More About the Author

Jessica Gibson is a recovering bookaholic, she's down from four books a week to a more reasonable one. It was that love of words and creativity that made her dream about writing her first book. That dream was hidden for years, always put on the back burner, filed away in the "someday" section, until her husband Matt gave her the kick in the pants she needed to actually get off her butt and write.
Jessica and Matt live in Southern California and have a serious addiction to reality tv shows like Pawn Stars and American Restoration. They have one son and hope to add to the family in the near future.
Aside from writing, she runs an online event planning business called the Release Day Diva. In addition to novels, Jessica writes and maintains the blog Book on the Bright Side. Keep up with Jessica and her latest releases and events on her blog.
