This review is from: Markahuasi: Music From the Highlands of South America (Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador) (Audio CD)
Markahuasi put out several cds before Andres Taher formed Andean Nation, which exists today. This is the only Markahuasi listed and is available through their Andean Nation website, with the rest of their material. If you like Andean music you will love the rest of their collection. Their Andean symphonies collection is mainly instrumental and captures the soul of the Andes.Traditional and Contemporary Music of the Andes is a 1994 production with 13 tracks. This one has 11. Their first cd has 18 tracks, and is not available ,presently. Music from the Highlands is a great one to start with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't go wrong with this one, November 22, 2006

This review is from: Markahuasi: Music From the Highlands of South America (Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador) (Audio CD)
"Markahuasi:Music from the Highlands of South America (Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador)" is one of my all time favorite CDs, it is exciting and calming at the same time. The music is organic and heartfelt. It fetures the sounds of pan flutes and wooden flutes as well as rithmic songs (all in South American languages). Excilent for car rides, listening to in the office while you type-away at your desk, or while you're cooking at home. It is great all the way through. Sometimes I listen to it several times in a row.

Buy this CD if you like good music, but before you buy make sure the seller knows which CD they are selling. I had to send two CDs back because the sellers thought they had "Markahuasi: Vol 3-Music from the Highlands of South America (Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador.)" when in fact they were selling "Markahuasi: Traditional & Contemporary Music of the Andes". Though "Traditional & Contemporary" is good "Vol 3" is ten times better and very different in style.
You will know the difference because "vol 3" has a white cover and "Traditional and Contemporary" has a black cover. I posted the pictures at the top of this page to help differentiate the two.

5.0 out of 5 stars I think you'll like it., October 21, 2008

I'm not a "world" music fanatic but I really like the fresh sound this has. If you like traditional music I think most people would really like this.
