Book Description

April 1, 2008

Created for adventurers and armchair travelers alike, this photo narrative offers a true account of an ancient lost humanity of mysterious origin whose hidden legacy carved gigantic, towering stone monuments pointing to a message with predictions for the future. Through a perusal of the cultural, historical, and often magical lore associated with the ancient Peruvian mesa—woven into a tapestry of more than 400 dazzling images, illustrations, and walking maps—readers will come to understand the site’s pivotal role as a repository of ancient knowledge. More than a traditional travel guide, this is a powerful handbook, facilitating the spiritual traveler intent upon achieving an intimate and transformational experience and showing how a simple change in one’s perspective can open an entirely new chapter in the way human history is perceived. Contributions from a variety of archaeologists, journalists, scholars, and fellow travelers illuminate the deeper mysteries of Markawasi while a section of travel tips, a camping guide, and general advice on high-altitude travel offer hints for those interested in making the journey.

More About the Author

Kathy Doore --

I grew up in the lush wilds of the Pacific Northwest; home to breathtaking forests, soaring mountains, and vast seas - wondrous fodder for capturing the imaginings of a child. This upbringing inspired within me the thirst of the avid explorer and photographer. After leaving Washington for a brief stint with the airlines, which ignited a lifelong passion for travel, I moved to Chicago. Soon afterwards, a friend gifted me with sailing lessons, and another great pursuit was unleashed. For the next two decades, I sailed the seven seas and developed a worldwide, yachting-based, tourism business.

In the late 1980's, my professional life brought me to South Florida. There, a series of synchronicities surrounding my receipt of a 'photo postcard' beckoned me to Machu Picchu, Peru, "the lost city of the Incas." Today I find myself escorting like-minded groups up the terraced walls of enigmatic ancient cities, camera in hand.

Journeying to ancient sacred sites is not only my passion, it is my profession. Bolstered by a longing to share my stories, I developed my online blog, "Labyrinthina," dedicated to the ancient mysteries of Peru. Perhaps one day, you will be blessed with the opportunity to visit these wondrous places for yourself! My new book, Markawasi: Peru's Inexplicable Stone Forest, is a natural extension of my desire to share the journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book, August 5, 2007
By
This review is from: Markawasi: Peru's Inexplicable Stone Forest (Hardcover)
This book is a gift to all who venture into the mystic. A chance for those of us who have not walked among one of the most amazing places I have ever heard of. The book takes you there with visuals not only in picture form but with Kathy's powerful gift of guidance and knowledge of this most sacred place with pen and ink. It is surely one of those places that should be placed on everyones list of places to see.

In this stunning book Kathy Doore has put together a gift fit for everyone.
If your interest is photography, graphics, sculpture, painting,
anthropology, history, mysticism, story telling, South America, Peru,
geology, Hiking, traveling or book collecting, I am sure that you will love this book. There's even a travel guide on how to get to this far-out sculpture garden up in the Andes.
It's one of the coolest and hippest books I've seen in a long time. The reading material is super interesting. If you prefer you can just flip through the pages full of awesome pictures and beautiful illustrations. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Attention all adventurers -- Peru!, July 29, 2007
This review is from: Markawasi: Peru's Inexplicable Stone Forest (Hardcover)
It's interesting to me that the National Geographic has not jumped all over "Peru's Inexplicable Stone Forest" as a place to chronicle. Maybe after looking at Kathy Doore's fabulous book,"Markawasi", they will!

In the late 90's and in 2001, I was lucky enough to venture to Peru. It was fun for me to see pictures (p.161) of the "spheres of light" that I also encountered at the Urubamba River. The author has caught the magic of Peru and put it in book form.

If you are hoping to visit Peru, then this book will give you plenty of ideas of where to go. OR if you've been and want to relive the incredible mystical land/people, this will take you there.

The sharp color photos and accompanying excellent drawings clearly show the figures in the stones. I found the drawings quite helpful. "Markawasi" is a perfect gift for any Peru travellers' coffee table. It's a gem.
