Book Description

April 1, 2002 Destroyer (Book 127)
STAY TUNED FOR MORE DEATH AND DESTRUCTION.

Somebody is using television as a mind control vehicle, sending subliminal messages to hollow-eyed viewers, and turning ordinary couch potatoes into raging mobs programmed to kill. A secret enemy dares to take over the world -- by controlling its greatest natural resource: the boob tube.

Worse, it's soon clear that whoever is behind the conspiracy knows about CURE and plans to preempt its mission to protect the world. Will Remo and Chiun kill each other . . . or just change the channel? Will Harold Smith discover his new assistant is a traitor . . . or just a victim of bad programming? Will the Destroyer be canceled by a certain network bigwig . . . or will the most fiendish plot ever to grip the airways become just another failure in the cutthroat world of big entertainment?

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Gem By Jim Mullaney, December 25, 2003
By
This review is from: Market Force (Destroyer Series No. 127) (Paperback)
Market Force is another fantastic entry in the Destroyer series written by the awesomely talented Jim Mullaney.

While you certainly do not need to be a longtime fan of the series to appreciate this fast-paced, hilarious and totally engrossing novel, die-hard Destroyer fanatics will certainly appreciate the numerous nods to the series' glorious past. And, believe me, there is tons of great stuff for complete newcomers to appreciate here, as well, and the mention of past events will not confuse or derail this masterful tale in any way.

Friend is back and plotting to take over the world for maximum profit. Jeremiah Purcell, the assassin trained in Sinanju by none other than Chiun's wayward and corrupted nephew, has escaped from Folcroft Sanitarium, the secret headquarters of CURE. And a billionaire media mogul, unwittingly in the pocket of the computer program we all love to hate, is sending out subliminal messages in tv broadcasts that are driving ordinary people to murder.

Throughout, the interaction between Remo and Chiun is, as always, a hilarious delight. Mullaney skewers network television with a deft eye and the Survivor parody---a show called Winner set in Harlem rather than an exotic locale---is laugh-out-loud funny. Pleny of action and suspense keep you turning those pages between pauses to laugh your rear off. Market Force is another great installment in the greatest action/adventure/fantasy/sci-fi series of all time and Jim Mullaney...Damn, that man is simply one of the best writers working today, despite the fact that he is not (yet) a well-known name.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story, January 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Market Force (Destroyer Series No. 127) (Paperback)
Jeremiah Purcell has escaped from Folcroft and Mark Howard is missing. Friend is back and has a way to turn Smitty, Remo, and Chiun against each other using the TV media and cryptosubliminal technology to hit their subconscious. All this while Remo tries to convince Chiun that he isn't trying to get rid of him.
This is a great book in the series. Jim Mullaney gets you going one way, yanks the rug out from under you, and throws you another way. He is also setting us up for what sure looks to be something huge.
