5.0 out of 5 stars A great resource for young writers
Many adults have trouble with the reality that writing is a real job, but still more think that young writers are only practicing -- that they're not good quite yet. Kathy Henderson treats young writers with the respect and dignity they deserve, and offers loads of relevant tips and ideas. This book is a great introduction to marketing your work as a young writer, and has...

3.0 out of 5 stars Lists most non-paying markets.
I'm 13, and I'm serious about becoming a writer - no, not about becoming one, but being one right now. This book was good in the sense that it answered all my questions like "what is a query letter?" and "what does 'pays upon acceptance' mean?" Ms. Henderson explains what they automatically assume you already know in adult market books. There's...

3.0 out of 5 stars Lists most non-paying markets., August 2, 2000
This review is from: The Market Guide for Young Writers: Where and How to Sell What You Write (Paperback)
There's also interviews with successful young writers that encouraged me.

However, the one thing that bothered me in this book is that most of the markets listed are non-paying ones. I think that if you're an author, work professionally, and write well, you should be paid for your work even if you are young.

This book is good for young writers who want more info on writing, but not if you're looking for a paying market. A better book covering most paying markets is the Children's Writer's and Illustrator's Market, published by Writer's Digest. I have submitted three stories to markets there already.

3.0 out of 5 stars Helpful, But Annoying, August 21, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Market Guide for Young Writers: Where and How to Sell What You Write (Paperback)
I found this guide to be extremely helpful. However, I also noticed that the book has many markets that publish only articles and stories from teenagers. In fact, most of the best ones . I think this is very annoying and even more frusterating. If you are in the 8-12 age catigory, I would reccommend trying another book. If you are thirteen or older, this is the book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book for Teen Writers, July 22, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Market Guide for Young Writers: Where and How to Sell What You Write (Paperback)
I recieved this book when I was twelve and now a little over a year later I've been published multiple times and I'm a correspondent on a national teen magazine. This book helped me accomplish getting my short stories and poems published. The first part gives you writing advise and shows you how to format your manuscripts. The second part introduces you to some young writers and editors. The last part lists hundreds of markets and contests for your manuscript. This is a book no young writer should be without.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Guide, April 2, 2010
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Market Guide for Young Writers: Where and How to Sell What You Write (Paperback)
As a 12 year old girl who is new to the publishing buisness, I thought this book was sort-of helpful. I had also ordered A Teen's Guide to Getting Published by Jessica and Danielle Dunn. I thought that book was more helpful, and more up-to-date. Anyway, this guide includes the Basics of Getting Published, How to Prepare Your Manuscript, Ansers to FAQs, and profiles of editors and young writers. I thought the book was great, but it was published in 1996, so it is not the most up-to-date. If you do choose to buy this, I would recommend buying The Young Writers Guide to Getting Published. After I ordered this book, I realized that it was a more up-to-date version of this book, just with a new title, but same author. The market guide in the back of The Market Guide to Young Writers has a great information, but you need to be willing to do research since after I googled most of the listings, I realized they no longer existed. It also has a great contest list, but again, be willing to research. I think that you should buy either A Teen's Guide to Getting Published or The Young Writers Guide to Getting Published instead just so that you could get more up-to-date informaiton, or you could buy both since The Young Writers Guide to Getting Published has a longer market guide.

1.0 out of 5 stars not what eveyone says it is, August 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Market Guide for Young Writers: Where and How to Sell What You Write (Paperback)
Every one was raving about this book so I went out and bought it.The only usful info in this book was how to format my manuscript. I later found the same info on a website. If you write poems its worth the money. But I don't write poems and there was not one publisher listed that even concidered young adult fiction. It was not worth my money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Classroom Tool, June 26, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Market Guide for Young Writers: Where and How to Sell What You Write (Paperback)
Educators often wonder how to direct their students to the world of publishing. This book is suitable as a classroom tool for those teachers looking to encourage students to enter their work in writing contests and/or for publication. This book outlines the "science" of submission, and clearly states how to prepare a manuscript.
