Book Description

January 6, 2012
Anyone who has their money in the market needs to read this view of Wall Street and why no one can admit that it has turned into a massive multiplayer online role playing game, an MMORPG. Take a biting journey into the new brutal world of investing. Tour the Dark Side where you meet new game masters, power players, and supercomputers. Where computers search and kill traders, and governments trade against Joe the Investor. Learn how financial engineers are calculating your behaviors betting against your weaknesses. Why the Ledge Jumper, the addicted Day Trader, and the delusional keep coming back for more. Written by an economic futurist who convincingly compares the new market with on-line war games, Market Whipped clearly depicts an investing environment that has evolved beyond gambling and into a battle between power players. This book is not about stock picking. It is an awakening to the fact that your competitors are automated computerized trading systems, the government as game master and trader, and a massive variety of characters—human and non-human—infiltrating the market from around the world. For those who are chained to the game, Market Whipped presents a new strategy to help you survive in a market that has whipped even the best pros. Because when you place a trade, you are stepping into the game as a character, onto a battlefield, either at the right time and place, or not.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"A productive analogy that sheds light on unchartered territory. In other words, it does what 'futurists' should do when they do their job right: identify and illuminate a change in the world, and describe why assumptions and practices that worked in the past may fail going forward." -Forbes

From the Author

We've listened to the economists, Wall Street, politicians, and traders tell us what is moving the market, but it never makes sense.  Beliveve me, it doesn't to them either.  After years of following the evolution of all the systems that comprise the investing environment--technology, regulations, behaviors--I finally came to the conclusion that this New Market has turned into a massive multiplayer online role-playing game -- a MMORPG.  A game with new forces that have permanently shifted the trading environment from an economic system to a behavioral system.

After reading Market Whipped: And Not By Choice, your view of what is driving markets will be changed forever.  If you ask where all these forces are leading, then read what the future of investing could mean to you as an individual trader.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must read for all financial experts and wannabes, January 14, 2012
This review is from: Market Whipped: And Not By Choice (Paperback)
Great book and very insightful! A must read for all those who think they are expert investors. Personally having predicted the 2008 financial meltdown and taking preventive actions, I thought I knew a think or two about looking for company/market predictors to make a trade. But post Obama inauguration the market behavior makes absolutely no sense.

I believe the author is absolutely correct in comparing stock market to the gaming industry! No wonder I find the CNBC talking heads being way off the mark! Go read it and see what I mean!

Gasp at the bewildering array of forces and personality styles behind the black curtain that creates market volatility while understanding the dynamics. A book of incite no one else is willing to say.

This review is from: Market Whipped: And Not By Choice (Paperback)
This is NOT your typical business or economics book and in turn provides the reader with a totally unique perspective that can be counted on to enrich your knowledge while entertaining. I appreciate the style as no non-sense with a rare dose of humor and wit to accent the author's obvious in depth grasp of complex and very interesting subjects (investment, social/cultural trends, investor psychology, and present with future technology related to these issues). The author's futurist roots lend credibility to various very entertaining predictions. In short this book is a highly recommended buy from someone who delights in new frontiers of thought and insights that challenge one's "reality" in a manner that can potentially improve quality of life (as related to monetary affairs) and entertain at the same time. This is truly for those who consider themselves well read explorers of the broader subject areas as aforementioned in parenthesis and want to keep the adventure going. I also count myself fortunate to have shared this book with my college age son and found a rich conversation that way exceeded expectations. That alone makes this a book well deserved 5 star rating.
