Highly distilled marketing text,
By jonwhite@maine.rr.com (Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Marketing Management: Millennium Edition (10th Edition) (Hardcover)
Updated and current, with several hundred mini-case studies, this is the definitive marketing text. Not for casual reading as it challenges you to apply key skills in analyzing "real" marketing examples. Fortunately, learning aids are available online and referenced in the book. I would recommend this edition to anyone in marketing or sales intent on success.

The marketing standard bearer,
By
This review is from: Marketing Management: Millennium Edition (10th Edition) (Hardcover)
Phillip Kotler is an internationally recognized name in marketing, and this introductory text (undergraduate or MBA-level) is a comprehensive resource on the subject. It provides a framework for analyzing marketing opportunities and making strategic decisions with respect to the marketing mix to maximize customer value. This latest edition was written with the Internet in mind and how it has changed marketing strategy. The only problem with the book may be its comprehensiveness because it tries to cover every conceivable topic. That makes it a handy reference, but you may need to consult other resources on both marketing and strategy to get a deeper understanding.

Go Back to Basics (drop the millennium hype),

This review is from: Marketing Management: Millennium Edition (10th Edition) (Hardcover)
Taking my first marketing course in an MBA program, and I am finding this book to contain a wealth of information, almost too much (like sipping from a fire hydrant). However, I agree with other reviewers that a quick read gives a good overview of basics, and the rest will be useful as future reference. The main fault I have with this book is the silly millenium trivia they stick in the margins of every page. These appear to be margin notes which constantly pull your eyes away from the text you are reading only to find out some obscure little thought about what the millennium may bring (having nothing to do with marketing). I am sorely tempted to go through the entire book with a black magic marker to obliterate the 'junk'. Perhaps if this filler had been left out, the font size could have been bumped up a point.

I buy a new Kotler Marketing Managment book each time they are issued. This edition is no exception and I'm glad that I bought it. In addition to the totally updated and revised case histories that I always find fascinating, Mr. Kotler has integrated a great deal of information on the new economy and electronic technologies throughout the book. From CRM to e-commerce, he has again provided a roadmap for the professional marketer. I found the section on marketing planning and how to integrate the internet into your branding and marketing plans to be extremely effective. New charts throughout each section as well as new sidebar features called "Marketing Insight" and "Marketing for the Millenium" make the book even more valuable.

Excellent detailed introduction to marketing,
By Paul Bobbitt "Pobbit" (Toronto, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Marketing Management: Millennium Edition (10th Edition) (Hardcover)
Kotler is recognized as one of the masters of marketing. This book continues his excellence in the field. His focus on marketing from a strategic management perspective would be sufficient to make this book worth the price. However, he also includes significant sections on internet marketing, which add a tremendous amount of value for the modern manager or business student. This is the core text for marketing in the Athabasca University distance MBA program. Highly recommended.

This is the best book of marketing overall,
By A Customer
This review is from: Marketing Management: Millennium Edition (10th Edition) (Hardcover)
If you're a student, or even an interested in the marketing area, I think you should buy this book before any other.Kotler does a very good job explaining about the most common marketing topics. Although the book doesn't go too deep at any topic(since it covers a lot of stuff), it explains enough to give you a good basic knowledge of the subject. If you want to read a marketing book, entirely, with attention, this is the best option that you have. You might end up with more knowledge about marketing that many graduated people. Intead, if you want a refernce book, this is a good option too. It's organized enough to help you find the subject you need and help you learn a decent amount of stuff about it. On a final notice, if you want to learn marketing overall, but think that will be too tough to read a +700 pages book, you might look for "Kotler on Marketing", which contains less stuff, but still covres most of the subjects of thsi one in an arguably more practical way. A very good book too.

Good overall review of concepts and theories, as well as everyday real-life activities of marketing. Found it very helpful in applying concepts to my work (bought it for an MBA class).

Kotler on Marketing : still the best !,
By Dr Baragur V Krishnamurthy (Bangalore, India) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Marketing Management: Millennium Edition (10th Edition) (Hardcover)
Prof Kotler's book was the text book on marketing when I did myMBA in the 70s. Even today, it is the textbook of choice on marketing for MBA and similar programs. The most admirable aspect of the book is the way it has evolved over the years. It is tempting to use the cliche "change is the only constant." However, in the case of Prof.Kotler, continuous change and contemporary insights are the hallmark of successive editions. The only difficulty that I face, as a teacher now, is to do justice to this phenomenal work in the 40 hours that is allocated by the university for the subject. As a reference work on marketing management, the book stands distinctly apart.

This book gives professionals and students an excellent introduction and overview on marketing management, on analysis of opportunities, development of marketing strategies and on planning, implementation and control of marketing programs. There is a focus on the traditional marketing process and there are good examples on many topics in the book.Don't hesitate, get it!

I purchased this book to prepare for the AMA's new Professional Certified Marketer exam. The companion Website with multiple choice questions for each chapter made the book a real asset in passing the examination. The Web testing underscored the main themes of each chapter and allowed me to absorb a great deal of information that would have been difficult to pick up through a straight reading. In my opinion, this is the one book you need to prepare for the exam.
