Move Over Duct Tape Marketing,
This review is from: Marketing: Unmasked: Insider's tips + tricks for success in small business marketing (Paperback)
I used to refer John Jantsch's Duct Tape Marketing as the go to marketing book for entrepreneurs. Now I recommend Marketing:Unmasked by Erik Wolf and Stephanie Frost. From branding to web design to social media marketing this book is a must read for small business owners.

Glad I read it,
This review is from: Marketing: Unmasked: Insider's tips + tricks for success in small business marketing (Paperback)
Too many marketing books are really written for and about the people who write the marketing book. This one was not. It has valuable information for small businesses written without a bunch of jargon. The authors don't waste any words; so you can read it easily in an afternoon. You'll enjoy reading it and learn a lot in the process.

Entrepreneur friendly,
This review is from: Marketing: Unmasked: Insider's tips + tricks for success in small business marketing (Paperback)
With so many businesses owned by small business entrepreneurs, it has always amazed me why many Authors write business books that totally miss this demographic. Marketing: Unmasked does the opposite and by doing so it hits home over and over again. It is very entrepreneur friendly, straight to the point and worth it's weight in gold as a go to manual for those of us who don't own or work in the big corporations.

This review is from: Marketing: Unmasked: Insider's tips + tricks for success in small business marketing (Paperback)
This book encapsulates all the important basics of branding, marketing, advertising, website and print design, and web-social media usage. Its simplicity is one of its strong points, as is its broadness of media; from business cards to web presence.
As a marketing professional I found the book to be a worthwhile read, and a great reminder of the basics (here is that word again, basics). I highly recommend this book as a refresher in basic branding to anyone who is in the branding facet of their business, and in reality, who of us isn't?

A small business owner's "Must Read",

This review is from: Marketing: Unmasked: Insider's tips + tricks for success in small business marketing (Paperback)
I work with small business owners everyday of the week and after reading Marketing:Unmasked, it is the one resource I recommend to all of them. This book presents the perfect roadmap for marketing your small business whether you have been in business for decades and need a facelift or you are a startup company. It includes many do's and don'ts and warns of what to look for in the "too good to be true" arena that so many business owners fall victim to when trying to market their business. It gives an incredibily realistic approach on how to market your business through all different media- web, networking, social media, and especially important, how to build your brand image. Marketing:Unmasked answers all the questions I hear small business owners ask me everyday when I meet with them and the first thing I do is reference what Erik and Stephanie say in this book. This a must read!

Practical, information that small business owners can USE,
This review is from: Marketing: Unmasked: Insider's tips + tricks for success in small business marketing (Paperback)
Everything was laid out great!
Highly usable material because everything is presented in a way that you now know how to go out and execute after reading. Areas of particular interest were to remember your customer and what you can do for them, blogging, website (free alternatives if you have no capital) and a practical perspective of how to leverage social media. As a 10+ year consultant I read a LOT of material. For someone trying to gain new skills in an area they're not expert in, this can be very challenging. That's what I expected I would have to go through regarding marketing. I'm especially grateful for the road map they've laid out. It's one of many value added features. Business owners tend to try to do everything at the same. This approach just isn't practical for one person to ever be able to complete anything in a reasonable timeframe. Simply put, I know where to start and what is important moving forward. The encouragement without hyping was refreshing too. I feel much more confident about my future marketing activities rather than overwhelmed by them after reading Marketing: Unmasked. It's going into the tool-kit for reference as I execute going forward. Read it before even attempting to develop your marketing plan!

A must-read for anyone interested in building a business.
Smart, savvy, practical and insightful advice told in a clear and empathetic voice. This book is packed with everything you need to know about marketing, advertising, promotions, websites, social networking and more. If you choose to learn these lessons the hard way, you'll choose to learn these lessons the expensive way. Bad idea. This book is an entrepreneur's survival guide. Read it, practice its teachings and succeed!

Practical Marketing Advice for Your Small Business,
By
This review is from: Marketing: Unmasked: Insider's tips + tricks for success in small business marketing (Paperback)
Many entrepreneurs are completely confused when it comes to marketing and branding their company. It really isn't their fault; they see so many self-proclaimed "experts" out there trying to sell them some new gimmick and are trying the same things that they see large businesses doing with no effect. What are they doing wrong? What makes marketing a small business so much different from marketing a large one?
Marking: Unmasked cuts through much of the hoopla out there about marketing a small business. A few years ago, before I started working with small businesses, I probably would have dismissed a lot of the suggestions in this book. All the schooling and work experience up till that point revolved around B2C marketing for large corporations. Marketing a small company requires a different skill-set and Wolf and Frost do a great job outlining what works (and what doesn't). |
