5.0 out of 5 stars Use With High Powered Air Rifle, February 27, 2011

This review is from: Marksman Airgun Darts, 10ct (Misc.)
I bought these to play darts at about 75 yards, shooting into a traditional dart board. Firstly They are VERY heavy and have a lot of drop, adjust sights high, whether in a rifle or in an air Pistol. They are very accurate once you get your guns sighted in for them properly, and are not affected by wind as much as you would think. The first time I popped one of these in my rifle I was afraid my rifles power would just blast the fuzz on the back of it (used for balance) right off, it however did not and fired true and straight, with a signifigant amount of drop and stuck about 4/5 of an inch into a piece of waterlogged 1 inch thick wood, at 35 yards. After backing up to 75 yards and sighting in the gun I could stick darts almost every time in or near the bullseye.

When firing these out of a high powered air rifle they do travel supersonic and make a loud crack upon firing, its barely quieter than a .22 lr. The Darts were penetrating half way into the dart boards and were a bit tight to get out, in one case pliers had to be used. It really depends on the gun they're being fired out of but they are accurate and powerful, stick into hard thick wood like nothing, even penetrated the back of my 26guage steel pellet trap.

They did not come with an "insert tool" but whatever they are easy to load, simply slide them inside the barrel. They are thin aluminum and are a loose fit but expand to fit the rifling of your barrel upon firing.

I would not recommend using these for anything except darts, they are expensive for what it is, and you cant recover them if they penetrate too deep, ive lost 4 that way, and 1 punching a hole in 26 gauge steel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice darts, after a trim haircut., June 12, 2011

These are some nice little darts for your air gun. They are even better after giving them a light trim haircut. Right out of the package the fur tufts on them are a little ragged making them difficult to chamber in my air pistol without getting some of the longer strands caught in the O ring seal on the bolt. Also, out of the five packages of darts that I bought there wasn't a "dart insertion tool" that's listed on the package tag in any of them. I'm not even sure what its supposed to look like, but there wasn't anything but the darts in the package.
Any who, the ragged tufts on the darts affect the accuracy and the ftps of your shot with them. After taking a good sharp pair of scissors to them and giving them a light trim haircut they were a lot easier to chamber and fired a lot more accurate than they did right out of the package. Now THESE DARTS ARE NOT A TOY! THEY CAN BE VERY DEADLY WHEN FIRED AT A PERSON OR ANIMAL! To be able to re-use mine I use them for indoor target practice in my mobile home. I use several flat pieces of Styrofoam packaging material layered together in front of a cardboard box full of rags for a backstop at the end of my hallway. This gives me a good 30 foot target range and I use two pumps on my "Crosman Black Bolt-Action Pellet Pump Air Pistol model number: PC77B" that I also ordered from Pyramyd Air with these darts.
I've had these darts before and used them with my Benjamin air pump rifle. With only 5 pumps fired from 30 feet away it would stick one of these darts deep enough into a 2"x8" board that none of the tuft was sticking out. It may have gone through a single board but I was shooting at four 2"x8"s standing stacked together.
Depending on your own ability as a marksman and the quality of your air gun, after trimming the tuft on them so that they are all the same they fire with consistent accuracy to each other. For what they are they are quite expensive and could be a lot cheaper but these are the first ones I've seen available at any price in the last 8 or 10 years.
