3.0 out of 5 stars Cute but Predictable Talking Dog Movie August 19, 2011
A Kid's Review
Format:Blu-ray
I'm 10 years old. When Marley and Me came out in theaters, I went to watch it. We left halfway through it because it was totally not for kids. But we went to Blockbuster today and saw this. We thought it would be kid-friendly. It was! Marley is very cute, and I loved Godiva and the cat (because I love pugs and cats) but I thought the whole plot was so typical. And unlike the first one, Marley talked. Marley's voice sounded exactly like Butterball from the buddies movie. I didn't really have a problem with that, but I mean... a dog contest? "Bad guys?" It sounds a lot like Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2. Or any other talking dog movie. It's pretty cute, but I figured out the whole thing before the movie was over. Maybe a little more for younger kids. Cute and Predictable. Talking and Typical. 3 of 5 stars.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing like the first Marley & Me August 20, 2011
Format:Amazon Instant Video|Verified Purchase
I was duped into renting this movie. I thought it would be somewhat similar to the original Marley & Me, but it wasn't. This movie is very similar to the Air Buddies series. If you like those movies you might like this one. Otherwise you should just watch the old one again (or read the book.)

3.0 out of 5 stars ONE FOR THE KIDS January 20, 2012
Format:DVD
This is definitely a kid-oriented movie and on that level, it succeeds as a cute enjoyable film. Adults might find it too contrived and difficult to appreciate.
THE PUPPY YEARS is obviously an attempt to cash in on its successful origins but is so amateurishly done, there is no real comparison. First problem is the decision to have the animals talk. It's become a tired device and the voice characterizations aren't particularly effective. The human actors tend to overact and poor Donnelly Rhodes (DaVinci's Inquest) is forced to act as second banana to the dogs.
But I'm being too Scroogish...family films are intended to entertain families looking for wholesome entertainment. This movie should meet that criteria just fine.

2.0 out of 5 stars Marley & Me was better! April 4, 2014
Format:Amazon Instant Video|Verified Purchase
I liked the first movie much better. It was much more interesting and emotionally engaging becuse you could see it was based on a real family with real feamily problems and dynamics. Even if the movie would have been based on a FAKE, MAKE BELIEVE FAMILY, the writing for the first movie was much better.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing March 31, 2014
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I loved Marley & Me. You can't even compare the two. Bad plot and acting. Very disappointing. Would not recommend anybody wasting time or money on this, especially if you are expecting the same caliper as Marley & Me.

I don't get this but my children (who are petrified of dogs) just love this movie. It is very wholesome while still keeping their interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars NOT BASED ON THE BOOK
the dog talks in this film so if you want to see the book come to life, I would pass on this movie and find the movie without "the puppy years". Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Good kids movie
While it's nothing like the original, kids will enjoy it. Not to hard for an adult to sit through which is how I rate kids movies since we are the one's that watch with them.
