I bought this book for my son, who is a beginning reader. He loves dogs and loves this book.

I bought this book for my six year old grandson and have decided not to give it to him. One page refers to "a bad man grabbed her and stole her purse. She was very scared" referring to a young neighbor of Marley's. I think that reference is too intense for an impressionable young child. The pictures are great and the rest of the story flows well. I think I will save it and give it to him later if at all.

Like the other reviewer, I bought this book for my young son and decided not to give it to him. Based on the short Amazon description, it sounded like a fun book about a yellow lab "saving the day". But once I read it, I decided it was much too mature for my kids. Given the range of wonderful literature available for young children, I don't think a story about a purse-snatching incident adds many positives to the reading repertoire of young kids. The reading difficulty may be from 4-8 years but the story content is much more mature. This book isn't a literary work of genius but it's probably a fun read for older kids, although with so many other enjoyable selections out there, I'm sure this book could be skipped without missing anything important and you'd spare your younger kids the lessons that come with criminal assaults on women.
