Publisher price of $89 is absurd. It's not worth half of the $56 price
offered by many. Be aware this book is all in black & white only with
loads of poor quality illustrations, engineer drawings, obsolete parts
exploded views & obscure information. A very un-pretty large volume in
comparison to similar excellent, full-color & beautiful histories done
for Colt, Winchester, Remington, Smith & Wesson, & Ruger. I own all of
these & this Marlin History is the shoddiest & worst quality of them
all, at one of the highest prices. Make sure you can return it if you
buy it and are as disappointed & disgusted as I was.

huge collection of data, photo's and info on Marlin. can't imagine the effort that must have been expended in collecting what is printed in this book. A bargin concidering what is offered between the pages for the reader.

A very comprehensive book for anyone with an interest in firearms. Well-written and illustrated. It contains a great deal of detail for the Marlin user and collector. Since it seems to go in and out of print on a regular basis, anyone interested in the book should get one while it's available. The cost of a used volume seems to increase each time it becomes unavailable. If you like gun books you won't regret buying a copy of this one.

This book is a must have for any Marlin collector or anyone who is interested in or wants to know about Marlin firearms. Tons of information, great pictures...well worth the money spent.

A well-written and well-illustrated book on the history of Marlin firearms. The book also covers specifics on Marlin firearms, and belongs in the personal library of any Marlin collector. The author, William Brophy, is a noted Marlin historian and collector, and extensively interviewed people connected with the Marlin company as part of his research for the book.

Although the book was written in 1989, it is still authoritative for Marlin Firearms up to that date. A great book at a great price.

I purchased this book because of my interest in lever action rifles, and was pleased with the information and illustrations on that topic. I enjoyed that section, then went ahead and read the rest of the book. The company history was fascinating.

Mr. Brophy did his homework in writing this beautifully bound and informative book, but somehow, probaably due to Marlin Firearms being lax in their record keeping, especially serial numbers and the appropriate dates of manufacture, I was unable to pinpoint the data needed to establish the exact history of this gun. I have been forwarded to another source for possibly gaining a more accurate record of this guns manufacture. A fine book other than this.

Its all here in just 700 pages.
A bit dry with all black and white pics
and even more uninspiring illustrations.
However should answer all questions on the subject,
and help round out any library.

I am Chilean collector of firearms. To me this book has been a great font of valuable information. It's a nice book.
