Can't wait to use this guide on my trip to Italy.

I have used Marling Menu Master for France and it was great to have more confidence in ordering knowing I wouldn't get something weird (by American standards).
Elaine( former legal writer)
This is a great little book but make sure you take a look at it to ensure that you have the correct guide while in Italy.

As an eighteen year flight attendant with a major airline, I cannot express how useful and beneficial the Marling Menu series of books are. I have used not only the "Italian" version, but also the "Espana" "French" and "German" versions too.
If you love to travel, but find the menu to be particularly challenging ... this is the book for you. It is inexpensive, small enough to not weigh down your travel bags, and most of all - I have yet to run across any menu item that is not completely and accurately described in intimate detail in this little "bible." You will not believe how much easier meal time in a foreign location is with this book - and because it is so easy to use, you will find that your gastronomic adventures are no longer a guessing game, but are enjoyable experiences.
Personally, I will not leave home without my Marling Menu Master. This book should be #1 on your list, it is on mine.

Having traveled with Marling's Menu Masters in the past, I can't believe that anyone would go to Europe without one. It is essential to enjoying a major part of any trip to Western Europe. Even with only superficial knowledge of the language you can decifer even the most comprehensive menu. The perfect way to utilize it is to order a glass of wine, and then take your time and translate the menu. Because Marling's organization will closely mirror the menu's organization, you can quickly move through it, and even discover the ingredients in sauces. Why guess? Turn your lunch or dinner into a dining experience.

The Marling Meanu Master is the best book I've seen for eating out in Italy. It breaks the menu down by category, antipasta, pasta, fish, meats, vegtables and desserts. It is written to translate the menu into english. Other guides I've seen do the opposite, which is very difficult to use.

This book was strongly advised and recommended by a friend the first time I went to Italy. She could not have been more correct! I've taken this book to Italy three times now. I loaned it out several times and have had good reviews from friends who borrowed the Menu Master. In fact, someone failed to return it to me (or I generously gave it away?) and I missed it very much when I recently went to Venice and Florence.
Italian menus can be pretty challenging. This book is a nice prep for your trip and it is VERY helpful. It's accurate. This is what your menu will look like in Italy. All or part of this book shows up in every restaurant! Italian food is quite regional, and I've found this useful in several regions.
Now, if only I could get my hands on one for Germany/Austria!

My family has been using Marling "Menu-Busters", as we call them, since the mid-1980s, and I was very happy to see that they are still available today. We have used them in the Italian, French, and Spanish versions, and they are all great. Easy to use and small enough to put in a shirt pocket, the soft plastic cover is rugged and durable. Since European menus are almost always arranged by courses, the Marling Menu-Master is arranged the same way, and we hardly ever found a food item that doesn't show up in this guide. If you are only purchasing one such book, you should consider this first.

The book will travel with me for my whole Italian vacation. Not many American based restaurants there so this book should help me decide food choices. At least I can avoid lardo sandwiches!

We were in Italy for a month, but somehow never used it. Probably because we stayed in somewhat tourist-friendly areas. Also we never went to the more expensive restaurants. It's small and easy to carry, and it could prove very useful, especially in places where no one speaks English, or to explore Italian dishes more extensively

Ever have problems in choosing what to eat in a foreign country? Well, this menu-master helped me select menu items that I would not have any idea of what it was. It helped me order new stuff. I don't know the Italian language, but this small book helped me a lot in knowing Italian food. I would recommend this to all who may be travelling to Italy.
