I purchased the Sweet Lounge after discovering it and thought it would look fantastic in my living room! I have to admit I initially purchased it as a sculptural art piece for myself and thought that my cats might occasionally scratch on it! Boy was I wrong, They absolutely love this bed!!!

I'm not sure what it is, the ergonomic curves, its impressive size or sense of ownership of the bed, but they do spend the better part of the day on the bed and sometimes fight for the middle spot! The Sweet Lounge is definitely worth the investment as it is favored over the more expensive carpeted cat tree I have and looks so much better! The parts that have been scratched into have become softer and it is slowly transforming into a nice napping spot for my cats. The hardboard keeps the overall modern art-esque shape and since it is symmetrical, I will one day be able to flip the bed over and I will have a brand new scratcher!

How appropriate of a cat furniture piece to be made of cardboard! Even my friends comment on how impressive it is! The natural materials and colors of the bed match almost any color scheme and holds true to modern design's `honesty of materials' precept. This really is the ultimate modern pet bed made with high quality artisan craftsmanship and authentic modern materials...My cats are so worth this!

ABSOLUTELY WELL WORTH THE COST.......if my cats are happy I'm ecstatic. This combo lounge cat bed and scratcher is beautifully designed and actually looks like a piece of sculpture. No matter where it is placed in a home, it will attract your felines to either lay on it, scratch it or play in and around it without getting bored. Unlike other items on this site of similar cost and design, this particular item is extremely well made, and I have no doubt that it will hold up for many years to come. The overall construction of the entire piece is made of the highest quality materials, and there is nothing that will deterioate with time and wear. My kitties take turns laying on it and all seem to really gravitate to it, especially when they want to join me and watch T.V. If only the best is for your felines, buy this item, sit back and watch them enjoy themselves.If you throw some toys (mice or balls) into the bottom openings, just watch as they vie to be the first to retrieve their prey. $159 for a cardboard cat bed-no way!! That was my immediate reaction when I ran across this lounge. One of my cats must have hit the Buy-it-with-One Click, as I bought it. And it is well worth the price. My cats love it-took to it right away. When not using it as a scratching board, one or the other is sleeping on it. Sturdily constructed, can handle a flying leap of 16 pounds from 20 feet. Cats will prefer this lounge to any piece of upholstered furniture!

I ended up buying this when it was on sale... it was still very expensive, and I'm probably crazy for buying it, but I love my cat, so what I thought what the hell, right?

The product itself looks nice and slick, has a nice heft to it and definitely has a quality of workmanship to it.

Having said that, my cat just doesn't really use it. He uses it more as a step stool to hide in the bottom drawer in a corner which he uses as kind of a cave. Sometimes he'll lay on top of this thing, and if I actually lift him up and put him on it, he'll scratch it for a bit, but whenever I'm home he basically ignores it for the most part.

For reference, my cat is male, ten years old, and ignored a very expensive cat tree I bought him as well and subsequently returned. But he does use an organic cotton bed that he curls up in and he'll actively scratch regular, cheap cardboard scratchers from Fat Cat also sold here.

Its hard to justify spending this much for what is essentially cardboard. That said, I'd buy it again because it looks great and most importantly, the cat loves it. It seems very sturdy and I expect it to hold up for quite some time, and thanks to its fabulous design, it can be flipped over for even more use when the time comes.

Rating is 4 stars because while I like it, the item isnt a great value and I still feel its a bit overpriced. The size description is somewhat misleading: it is not 6' long, it is 3' (but kind of has 6' of scratchable surface since you can flip it over). I was more agreeable to the item's cost when I thought it was that large of a size - perfect for multicat households - so its size was a bit of a disappointment. Still a great product if its in your budget though.

My three cats instantly took to this cat lounge. They lounge at least part of the day on it, and use it to scratch their claws. I have never seen more than one on it at a time, as I've read in other reviews. They take turns and use it every day. It is made of cardboard and it does shred small pieces on the carpet. This can be a little annoying, but the nice thing is that you can flip it over and use the other side. I don't think it will last longer than a year, but I believe it is well worth the money. It brings many hours of joy and comfort to my cats!

yes it is expensive. yes is will be loved by your cats. our two take turns sleeping and playing on it. the only other item like this that they like as much is the "Petlinks dream curl." The cardboard does come up when they scratch, but not as bad as cheap scratchers. Every few days we clean it off to remove fur and loose cardboard. The shape allows you to "hide" cat treats in the center for your cats to sniff out and then have to figure out how they can remove the treats. Overall, if this item was $80-$90 we'd buy a couple more and also give to friends. Hopefully the price point will change in time.

edited on 12/31/2009 to add: after about a month or so this product starts to "Fray" and cardboard pieces come off it as your pet scratches. I've found that using a light weight sand paper you can remove a lot of the weakened material and increase the "life" of the product. You can also use a wire comb to remove loose cardboard.

I read all the reviews to help justify this pricey purchase knowing that great reviews doesn't always equate into something that your pets love.

I'm giving this product 5 stars because the delivery was quick and most importantly because my cat has given the paw-stamp of approval.

In the beginning she was a bit hesitant to get close to this strange new object in the house but now that it's been over a few months, there is no doubt that this lounge-bed is now one of her favorite spots in the house.

We always find her sleeping on it, lounging on it or running to it to scratch when she gets happy & excited - I think she finds some sense of security with it :)

The best part of it all is that she now uses this lounge-bed as her one-&-only scratch post. Before she used to scratch carpets in the corners of our room, the rug downstairs & the italian leather sofa. To help prevent the damages, we used to apply soft plastic nail caps (also known as SoftPaws). This was a great alternative but it only reduced the damages since one or two nail caps would eventually fall off. Now she is free of nail caps and we are free of any further damages around the house.

Lastly, this card board fixture is made of very sturdy material in comparison to your standard scratch post. We noticed this because there has been less mess from the card board bits and the surface looks like it can continue taking more months of scratching before we need to flip it over.

We first had this placed on the floor but knowing that cats like lounging in high places, we now have this on top of our dresser. Since then, we noticed this lounge-bed is beginning to look like a large art sculpture placed for display - which is a definite plus!

I would buy this again but looks like it's going to last for a while ;)

Hello all you lovers of Felines....I wrote a review a couple of years ago, but came back again to make sure you all know how terrific this LOUNGE & SCRATCH bed really is. From the minute I opened the huge box it came in, my little critters were extremely curious...what could this be??? who's going to get at it first??? I want it...you can't have it!!! And so on and so forth. The kids still love this item, and for that I am most grateful. I bought it at full price, so you can imagine how pleased I was that they all took to it. Not only that, but two years later they are still lounging and scratching on it. I have moved the lounger many times throughout my home, and the last move was to the hearth of my fireplace, which extends to the end of a huge picture window facing the ocean. It gets full sun all day long, and that's where I usually find one of them, sun bathing, of course.
Don't hesitate to make this investment...it is well worth the money, and it holds up beautifully...unlike the small scratchers that just lay on the floor.

My kitty absolutely loves this cat bed. The perfect diva, she loves to lounge on the bed and keep an eye on the dog. A great investment for anyone whose cat loves to pick at a scratching post and lounge around.
