Good for what it was intended for,
By Montanero (Fayetteville, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Marmot Kompressor Plus Backpack (Misc.)
This is not intended to be a mountaineering pack, nor a daily use gym bag. It was designed to be light and pack small so you can carry a small day bag in your backpack for those short day trips when you do not want to carry your entire kit. It will hold water, poncho, jacket, some food. It packs into a small size if you remove the foam pad which gives it shape and stability (you pack that separately if you use it at all) and is there for when you need it. It weighs nothing. I have tried this one, a similar one from Merrel and one from L. L. Bean, and this one is lighter and packs smaller, but it does have fewer features that the L. L. Bean one. I have acquired several of these types for my Boy Scouts to carry in their backpacks. I recommend it, as long as you use it the way it was intended.

Bike Commuter Pack,
This review is from: Marmot Kompressor Plus Backpack (Misc.)
I got this pack for bike commuting. It works really well for that. There is plenty of room for a rain-shell, water bladder, work clothes, lunch, etc. Since it is so light I hardly notice it on my back while I am biking. For what I bought it for (riding my bike about 12.5 miles each way to work) it works great. I really like the amount of stuff it holds and the ease of access to the different pockets. I don't really like the placement of the compression straps I don't think they do a very good job but maybe that is because my bag is rarely even close to full. I thought the lack of a hipbelt wouldn't be a problem but I have found that hiking is okay but running with this pack is absolutely out. It might be ok for someone taller/broader but on me it just bounces around too much. Too bad because it is a great weight for running.Bottom line: This is a lightweight pack, I've had it about 3 seasons and used it for hiking, biking and x-country skiing with no issues. Even though some of my other packs are more comfortable I almost always grab this one because it is so lightweight and everything fits in it no problem.

Solid and quality backpack for short hike or trip.,

This review is from: Marmot Kompressor Plus Backpack (Sports)
The backpack is small (but not too small) and light, but sturdy enough for daytime hike. I normally load up rain jacket, light fleece jacket, 70 oz hydration pack, extra water bottles, socks and some dry food. Nothing too heavy. Plenty of room with those in. Outside meshed pocket is a nice touch along with top cover that also provides small storage space. It's easy to wash and dry. There is no padding unless you count the flat foam pad in the hydration compartment(?). Not ideal for textbooks and heavier objects, I think. Good backpack for daytime hike or trip.
