Great coat, great jackets, versatile, warm, awesome pockets and fit
on January 20, 2013
I bought my Marmot Gorge last year at the end of the season. I've been using it a little bit since then, and really started going with it now that winter is with us here in Chicagoland.
I love it. I have had other jackets, and I've had other modular jackets, but this one easily beats anything I've had before.
As a complete set, this is warm, dry, stops the wind, and has great storage for keys, a phone, a wallet, and probably way more stuff than you'll really want to carry. But even with that, it's attractive and fits nicely.
The insulating layer is probably a huge part of that. It's warm. It's really handsome as well. I take this out and wear it frequently in spring and fall. The pockets on this jacket are not quite as spacious or plentiful as the shell jacket, but they are very capable. There is a little fleece lining around the neck of the insulating jacket which is a nice thing to have when it's really bitter cold out.
The shell has some great pockets, and lots of awesome features. A skirt for attaching some snow pants, venting zippers to regulate temperature effectively, and most importantly: good wind and water resistance. Stopping the elements really helps the insulating jacket do its job well. The hood has a nice bill for keeping it up and out of your eyes, and with a hat would be plenty to stay out for quite a while.
I'm a huge fan of my Marmot Gorge. It really is worth the money.
