Thermal R Insulation
Thermal R is Marmot's proprietary family of polyester insulations specifically engineered to meet various needs from sleeping bags, to garments, to gloves, offering excellent warmth-to-weight, resilient mid loft, and durability.

Polartec Power Stretch Fabric
Polartec Power Stretch fabrics feature comfortably snug four-way stretch, and are very breathable, keeping you dry when you sweat and providing warmth without weight. The material features proprietary construction with two unique surfaces. The durable nylon outer layer is wind- and abrasion-resistant, while the soft inner layer pulls moisture away from your skin. Compression stretch can improve performance and reduce the chance of certain types of stop-go injuries. Polartec Power Stretch keeps skin dry through three complementary mechanisms:

  1. The fabric is highly breathable and does not restrict movement of moisture vapor
  2. "Touch Points" on the fabric inner surface draw off sweat, which is wicked off the skin to the outside of the fabric
  3. When sweat reaches the outside of the fabric, it spreads out to many times its original surface area, enabling it to dry at least two times faster than cotton

Lifetime Warranty
Marmot products include a limited lifetime manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

About Marmot
In April 1971, University of California Santa Cruz students Eric Reynolds and Dave Huntley were in Alaska on the Juneau ice fields for a Glaciology school project. This was where the idea of Marmot, originally a collegiate climbing club, began. Reynolds and Huntley soon began making prototypes of down products such as vests and sleeping bags in their dorm room in Santa Cruz. By the spring of 1973, Reynolds and Huntley partnered with fellow climber Tom Boyce to open a modest rental and retail location, named Marmot Mountain Works, in a 100-year-old building in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Their first large order was for 108, as the producer called them, "very puffy jackets" for the movie The Eiger Sanction, with Clint Eastwood, which helped make down outerwear fashionable. In 1976, Marmot was one of the first companies to recognize the value of a new technology being developed by W.L. Gore & Associates. Marmot was soon producing waterproof Gore-Tex sleeping bags, with Reynolds and Huntley testing early prototypes by sleeping in meat lockers and under fire sprinklers, and later introduced the waterproof/breathable fabric into nearly all Marmot products.

From humble beginnings, Marmot and its product line have grown over the years, and today the company is headquartered in Rohnert Park, California, with offices all over the world and distribution in more than 60 countries.

While I rarely have the confidence to wear this out and brag about being 'that guy', the guy that wears his outdoor gear to show off that he does outdoorsy stuff, I do sometimes still cause it is such a great coat. Great to throw on to go to the store or to a friends. It is however in outdoor activities this jacket excels. I've worn it on a 12 mile run during which the sun was out and the temp changed maybe 20 degrees throughout and it kept me warm and then didn't get too hot. I've worn it on overnight backpacking trips for which the same temp regulation occured as well. It is very versatile and keeps your temp regulated well.

I am 6'2, 205lbs (lean @ 10% body fat) and this jacket fits me 100% perfectly. It is thin and lightweight. It is extremely flexible, and warm for it's thickness. I have jackets anywhere from thin $50 windbreakers to $300 gortex skiing jackets. This jacket is a great mid-season jacket that is easy to throw on. It doesn't take up a ton of space in your office or in your closet. It can be folded up. It is warmer than a sweater in that it breaks wind and the material is woven much tighter. The zippers are well done with covers so wind doesn't seep through. There are holes to put your thumbs into that helps keep the sleeves below your knuckles, which if you spend a lot of time outside in late fall or early spring, can get chapped easily.

The #1 best thing about this jacket is how light weight it is, and how easy it is to move around in it with full flexibility.

Hope that helps.

The thin jacket works well for a layered warmth. Light weight warm with great mobility while skiing or motorcycle riding.

This is a solid lightweight jacket for the Fall season... As an outer layer itself it's good for cool temperatures but you wouldn't want to wear this by itself in Winter. The other good thing about it though is even though the front has a thin layer of down (or fake down, not sure) it's not bulky at all and makes a nice mid-layer as well. Plus the blue zipper on black is a cool look.
