Nice rain jacket, perfect for spring / summer!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I received this right as it started a spring downpour for about 5 days straight here. It kept me dry, and was lightweight enough to not be bulky or impede motion. I didn't get a drop of water on me, and the hood was great, you can wear it normally or even put a longer flap out if needed. It is thin, so it seems like it would rip easily, so I'd be careful in dense brush. It is very compact, would fit in another coat pocket or in a small pocket in your backpack if needed, super-compact. Would also fold up into it's own pocket. Dried very fast when I hung it up. Great color choices as well. The only negative I have is that the pockets are a little high, up where some secondary pockets are on my other jackets. True, it also does not breathe that well, but it's a rain jacket...just open the pit zips if you have to step inside somewhere, or just take it off, no biggie, you can practically shake whatever water is left on it off, and throw it in your pack.
I would definitely buy another one (my girlfriend also has one). All around I would give it a high score 9-10/10 because it was exactly what I needed and was looking for for the warm month downpours, and portability. My winter shell is indestructible, but way, way too bulky to take around for the warm months.

Suffocate,
This review is from: Marmot Precip Rain Jacket Mens (Misc.)
I seem to be the only person that does not like their Marmot Precip jacket. The upsides are that it is waterproof and very compact, but the jacket does not breathe at all. The few times that I have worn it I feel very "sticky" inside it, even with the pit zips open. Having my arms sweat even in low temperatures while wearing this jacket is pretty miserable. So I placed this jacket as an emergency rain coat in the trunk of my car...

Tropical Storm Hannah do your worst,

What better situation to test the durability of a rain jacket than during a tropical storm escorting ladies from their cars to a baby shower?
I had wanted a lightweight versatile rain jacket for quite some time. Enter the Marmot PreCip rain jacket. For a mid priced jacket this can't be beat. Not only did the PreCip handle well in the rain but it provided the kind of breathability you would find in higher priced rain jackets. While it does skimp on the pockets it nonetheless provides a good contour fit around the upper torso. From the low profile zippers and tighteners this is a hiker, runner, or everyday man's must-have jacket. The jacket can be stuffed into one of its own pockets for stowage which makes it ideal for backpacking. I would highly recommend this jacket for anyone looking for a lightweight moderately priced rain jacket.

I've had this for a few years and it's great for what it does.
Pros: Very light weight, it's just one layer with no lining. The reviewer who says this is sticky is correct, you cannot wear it against bare skin, like for the arms. I always wear long sleeved shirts with this, in fact I usually pair this with Nike's dri-fit so the sweat is wicked out and evaporates. The reviewer who says the fabric is not breathable is also correct in my experience. But I wear these on hikes so the heat generated by my activity might be overwhelming the ability of the micropores to "breath". However, this jacket is very well vented. There are large vents in the underarm area and the front can be velcroed in 3 spots. So when I heat up, I just undo the zip and velcro the 3 contact areas instead so air can flow freely through. It's very good in heavy rain. The cuffs velcro up and when you button up the chin, nothing can get in. I don't wear this to go out, I only use it for hikes and exercise, I hang it in the garage and I've never washed it and it still looks like new! In my opinion, this is a great buy for someone who wants a light jacket for the rain.

good jacket,

Good jacket, I find that these jacket's ride a little on the short size for torso length. The medium is too big but the length is good, the short fits quite well but rides slightly high on the waist. Being about 5"11 155 lbs makes me around average so I figure they could size these a bit better for an outdoor "activity" jacket, but all around worth the money. . . . .
Edit: Also, make note, I originally got this as my wet weather/ windy day commuter cycling shell. While it's a great rain jacket it isn't a good bicycle shell. Zip this thing up pedal six miles in cold or warm weather and be prepared to SWEAT! If this is for bike commuting, go for something a little more expensive with a waterproof material that breathes better. . . .

This jacket is perfect for hikes and it fits easily in your back pack. Great for unexpected showers while treking through the trails. Very lite weight just leave the zippers under the arms opened for ventilation.

Affordable high performace rain gear!,

This review is from: Marmot Precip Rain Jacket Mens (Misc.)
The new 2011 PreCip rain shell by Marmot is an excellent all-around piece of gear. It's new and improved DWR fabric is much more breathable while providing even more water repellency. The PreCip jacket features a billed hood that can be cinched down tight as well as a velcro strap to store the hood when not in use. The interior of the jacket is lined for extra protection against the elements. Two pit zips come in handy for releasing moisture if it gets too warm. The PreCip also features velcro adjustable cuffs as well as an elastic drawstring to cinch down the waist. The material is light and durable. The quality of this product just can't be beat with this price. Definitely a winner if you're looking for a quality, lightweight, rain shell for commuting or on the trail.

The Marmot Precip is a great rain jacket. Have worn it in a couple decent rains for hours and it has kept me bone dry as well as my goretex coat. The jacket is very light and at times, I do not even know I have it on. Not sure how it would hold up under the strain of a pack and heavy duty hiking, but I bought it more as a casual rain coat. So far I am extremely pleased with the Precip. The price was also too hard to pass up!
