Marrakesh by Design is a stylish and infomative book with some stunning pictures. I read it from cover to cover since it arrived yesterday. Unlike other design books, this one is actually a useful addition to our library. Of course it looks beautiful on the coffee table too!

I particularly like part III of the book on sourcing, which catalogues the very best of Moroccan products. We are not talking about mass produced souvenirs, but rather individually hand crafted collectables with the artisanal skills that are disappearing quickly theses days.

I highly recommend this book only to those with discerning taste, and to those who love to live surrounded by beauty!

Timeless is a great way to describe the style of Marrakesh and all the designs that the author presents in this book. The very impressive design versatility from Morocco is apparent on every page.

The photography is truly amazing. The work thoroughly researched and beautifully presented with flavors of Moroccan architecture, beauty, culture and design. A wealth of how-to ideas for interior design and architecture also make this book very practical.

Highly recommended for anyone interested in Moroccan design. Maryam Montague's work is truly inspirational.

This book is NOT for the serious traveler, or anyone really interested in design.
It is geared to the person who has never left home but wants to appear to have seen the world. It includes many "how to" categories such as How to stencil a floor, How to make a coffee table from a window, How to dye a concrete floor, How to make mint tea, and more. It is all superficial and has very little to do with Morocco. You'll understand more about Morocco from reading a travel guide.

As a registered architect, I have traveled to Morocco a few times. This book "Marrakesh by Design" gives the reader very little flavor of the TRUE Morocco. I would recommend the two Thames and Hudson publications - Morocco Modern, and Living in Morocco, which are a much better choice for understanding the culture and the visuals. If you want to learn how to make mint tea ... read a book on making tea, and not this one. Please note that I do NOT work for or represent any book publisher.

I just finished Maryam Montague's book 'Marrakesh By Design'. I am totally in love with this style, vivid colors, display of patterns and colors. My friend turned me onto it. I think next year we are creating a group to travel together and stay at least one night at the Peacock Pavillions in Marrakesh. Meanwhile I already had many lanterns but obtaining more. When my sofa wears out I'm going to create and design a banquette-like couch. And, I am searching the web for collecting poufs. I just purchased a hand made etched tagine from Ten Thousand Villages. It is hand formed by women potters of Lombok, Indonesia. I also purchased my first Moroccan cook book. Cooking a recipe for the first time this evening. After seasoning my tagine. I'm addicted! Thank you!

"Understanding Morocco's history and culture is essential to finding the answer to Morocco's design equation." The author truly gives enough of a taste of Morocco's history and culture that the book's elements of design take on a whole new richness and depth. Marrakesh by Design is a so much more than just design ideas.

The "how-to" pages are creative, inspiring and fun projects to try. The "bring-it-home" tips are practical ideas to incorporate Moroccan style elements in an existing situation (no need to wait until I have the time-or money-to do a complete renovation). The purchasing tips and supplier resources are invaluable! The photo's are a feast for the eyes!

Whether you are a seasoned decorator, a decorator wannabe or a travel enthusiast...this is an excellent and enjoyable resource.

If you love design and decorating, if you love, and need, beauty surrounding you, buy this book. And savor it. Some books I tear through, and some, like this one, my creative mind doesn't like to miss anything, so I read a few pages and then process what I've read throughout the day. So after a quick, excited perusal I settled in and started from the beginning. Every page I had the same feeling: I want to create this. I want to make that. NOW. I have so many ideas I don't know where to start- my creative senses are completely in overdrive and it's fantastic. Here's why: Marrakesh by Design gives you all the beauty you desire and want from a book about Moroccan design- its saturated colors, intricate textures and awe-inspiring architecture; how design is used in the different areas of the Moroccan home and (heaven for my research-oriented mind) it tells you where all of this design came from (there is so much spiritual meaning and fascinating cultural history). You get an inside peek at the gorgeous Marrakesh boutique hotel Peacock Pavilions designed, built, decorated and run by the author Maryam Montague and her husband. And she gives you all the design elements, resources, tips, and some wonderful step-by-step projects to bring this to life yourself at home. This is not a book to read once and put on your shelf. It is the beginning to creating your own Moroccan magic.
