Book Description

November 2, 2009
Filled with deliciously vivid dishes, Marrakesh Express features over 120 mouth-watering and easily reproducible recipes along with stories and images that take the reader on a journey to the legendary land of Morocco. The Moroccan culinary patrimony is rich and diverse. Strongly anchored in the Arab civilization, it uses sumptuous spices such as saffron, sweet cinnamon, and pungent clove. Its delectable fruit-inspired desserts and honey-glazed pastries evoke the scent of orange blossoms and rose. Moroccan cuisine is also unmistakably Mediterranean. Its liberal use of fresh ingredients and herbs such as coriander, mint, and rosemary places Moroccan gastronomy at the heart of Mediterranean cooking. In this book, Nisrine Merzouki celebrates her country s flavors with recipes such as Chicken Stew with Butternut Squash and Wheat Berries, Berry and Pistachio Couscous with Vanilla Yogurt and Raspberry Jelly, Tagine of Veal with Dried Apricots and Almonds, Cumin Lamb Keftas and Honey and Cinnamon Ice Cream.

5.0 out of 5 stars A bit of family history and lots of delicious! April 14, 2010
Format:Paperback
I purchased this book after following the author's blog for some time. I love how she incorporates her family's history, information about the dishes, poetry, and recipes into one simple book. Also, the variety of delicious recipes are easy to follow and incorporate ingredients that are familiar and easily found in the US. If you are new to Moroccan cooking this is definitely a great primer!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Recipes! April 14, 2013

I really love this book for making Moroccan food accessible. I've been visiting Morocco every year for the past couple of years and the food is fantastic. Whenever I tried to find restaurants here in NY serving Moroccan food, I always ends up being disappointed because it's not remotely as good. I admit I was intimidated to try making it myself at first, but when I tried some recipes on Nisrine's blog and I saw how easy it was, I decided to buy her book. Some of the recipes can be time consuming but they're simple to follow. In addition all of the ingredients are easily found in the supermarket. The dishes I've made so far have turned out just like the ones I've eaten in Morocco, either at my friends' homes or in restaurants. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in Moroccan cooking!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Unique Cooking Experience January 9, 2010
Format:Paperback
I received this book as a Christmas gift from a friend that knows I like to cook new and interesting things, and it was absolutely my favorite gift this holiday season.

Beautifully photographed and elegantly written, "Marrakesh Express" is more than a cookbook; it is a love letter written by the author to her childhood home. Peppered with family photographs and garnished with historical details about the food and the region, the reader receives not only and idea or two for a hearty dinner, but a true sense of Moroccan life.

Filled with mouthwatering photos, delicious and easy to follow recipes, heartwarming anectdotes, and even a smidge of poetry, "Marrakesh Express" is one cookbook that will find a home on my shelf for years to come.

I loved this cookbook. It's beautifully written with healthy, appetizing recipes and very interesting family anecdotes. It's also easy to follow, with photos of dishes throughout.

Everything I've tried so far came out great. I have made the dry rub lamb shanks, couscous with caramelized onions and raisins, pineapple beignets and lemon basil ice cream. They were delicious. I am very pleased with this book. I highly recommend it.
