Another Keeper from Carolyn Davidson,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Marriage Agreement (Harlequin Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the last book in the unofficial Devereaux family trilogy by Carolyn Davidson. Loving Katherine introduces the Devereaux family while The Seduction of Shay Devereaux continues their story. The Marriage Agreement, featuring Lily (Yvonne) Devereaux and Gage Morgan, ties up most of the loose ends and was well worth the wait. Our one-hunk-of-a-man in this book is Gage Morgan who we were first introduced to in Colorado Courtship. Morgan, as Lily insists on calling him, is a dark, sophisticated, mysterious, undercover government agent which gives him an extra measure of sexiness. Just when I think I've found the epitome of The Perfect Man, Carolyn Davidson comes along with another one to add to the mix. Lily (Yvonne) Devereaux is a mixed-up woman on her way home to her family after being used and abused by a jerk. Morgan rescues her from the life of a riverboat singer/potential unwilling prostitute to help him with an undercover assignment in Arkansas. Or so he *says* that's the reason he marries her and takes her with him. Readers of Carolyn Davidson will not be disappointed in this combustible romance between Lily and Morgan. Thank you, Mrs. Davidson. But, PLEASE write faster!

Who is that sneaky shadow man?
Undercover government agent Gage Morgan is on a mission. He needs a cover in order to pull it off. Enter one Lily Devereaux who looks innocent enough to help him complete his mission. Little by little this dark haired beauty is one he can use to go undercover with and look legit. The man in the shadows approves his plan. For reasons known only to himself, Gage agrees to Lily's demand that if she goes with him it will be after marriage. She is not trusting in any empty promises again. She knows that Morgan believes her to be a woman of the night. We get to travel with them to Arkansas to foil the plans of a group of men swindling the farmers out of their property. Believe me it doesn't take Morgan long to convince Lily to hop into his bed. Yet he does use decent restraint. Ah, but all Lily wants is to go home to River Bend and her parents. She hopes to reunite with her family after being away for five years. But she can't ask Morgan to take her there. She is determined to find her own way. Oh, what a mess. We follow Morgan as he tries to capture his wayward wife and convince her to stay married to him. We get to catch up with her brothers Roan and Shay and their families but don't forget the little side books with Shay's friend, Beau Jackson in MAGGIES BEAU and Morgan's intro in COLORADO COURTSHIP [one I have to look forward to] HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - Oh Yeah! great books

THE MARRIAGE AGREEMENT is another wonderful tale of the Deveraux family, specifically Lily-Yvonne, the runaway daughter of a Louisiana plantation family during the Civil War. This story takes place five years after the war and is Lily's tale of coming home with her determined husband on her trail. Don't miss the beginning of the Deveraux family with LOVING KATHERINE and follow up with THE SEDUCTION OF SHAY DEVEREAUX and finally THE MARRIAGE AGREEMENT.

Loving Katherine introduces the Devereaux family while Maggie's Beau (Shay has good supporting role) and The Seduction of Shay Devereaux continue their story. The Marriage Agreement, is the last one. This book started off very well. I felt it sagged a bit in the middle, but I was also getting interrupted often during that part of the book, so it could be just my perception. In any case, the story does change pace toward the end. All in all, a good read.
