Marriage On Her Mind- A Joyfully Recommended Title,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Marriage On Her Mind (Harlequin American Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Casey Jernigan has to finally start living life on her own terms. This means stopping a wedding before she walks down the aisle, striking out on her own and moving to a new area where the socialite seems to be a bit of a fish out of water on the first day. But her landlord and neighbor, the super sexy Max, is definitely going to tempt her to try to find her inner wild woman. Too bad neither of them is looking for something long term. But, with the fast-paced, fun-filled lifestyle of the mountain community, will they be able to keep their brains in check and let the romance take hold?Or will they scare each other off.
What's a girl to do when she finds everyone else seems to be running her life for her? Well she takes back control of her life and destiny is what. That is the story that you will find in Marriage on Her Mind by Cindi Myers which I found to be a laugh out loud funny story about an offbeat area of Colorado. Ms. Myers has a wonderful imagination as she dreams up all the different things for Cindi and the tourism office to plan. Through it all Casey and Max are falling in love, no matter how hard they fight it. Because of all the humor and how quickly Ms. Myers sucked me into this story I decided Marriage on Her Mind needed to be Joyfully Recommended. Tanya reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

Being a local of Crested Butte, I can say for a fact that this is not at all what the town is like. Some aspects, such as the abundance of restaurants and real estate offices, are realistic, but I can't even begin to list what is not realistic. Here are a few examples:
The two-story outhouse could not possibly be within view of Casey's balcony. There are about two and a half blocks worth of buildings between her supposed location and the location of the outhouse. I have rarely met anybody in Crested Butte who acts like the characters in this book, and I've lived here for over fourteen years. I could go into detail, but that would be a waste of time, so here's a basic summary: Not all men are carefree, no local teenager would be stupid enough to get lost in the woods, and life isn't nearly as carefree as the author makes it out to be. There is no mention of the older generations, who in reality would be the ones chosen for positions such as Flauschink King/Queen. There is also no mention of the families that have lived in Crested Butte for generations, which takes out a large part of the town's culture. As for the actual storyline, I found it fairly predictable, though I will admit there wasn't much that could have been done differently.

lighthearted romantic romp,
This review is from: Marriage On Her Mind (Harlequin American Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Although she has doubts, Casey Jernigan leaves Chicago for Crested Butte, Colorado where she will work as the assistant director of marketing for the local chamber of commerce. Her family is appalled with her decision especially since she jilted her groom whom she had been marrying to please everyone but herself. When she arrives at her new home, she meets her landlord, mountain man Max Overbridge, who is nothing like the social butterflies she dated back home.
Max and Casey are attracted to one another and both like the fact that neither wants a commitment. As they fall in love, he helps her come to grips with her understanding it is her life that she only has one time to enjoy. Now she must help him understand that he is the one life that would enable her to enjoy her life completely. This lighthearted romantic romp contains two likable protagonists and an underlying message that you only have one chance at life. The story line is fun although Casey adjusts too easily to the rural Rockies after living by the urban Great Lakes. Still fans will enjoy her escapades as she goes from a fling to MARRIAGE ON HER MIND forever with her mountain hunk. Harriet Klausner |
