5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album From Beggining To End, November 19, 1998
Combines best elements of iron maiden and manowar to create an emotionally spectacular album that is unforgetable from beginning to end. It is followed up by the equally greatMarriage.....part 2,,Check this out,you wont be dissapointed!!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Power Metal, May 14, 2003
Add a bit of Iron Maiden and a bit of (later) Riot. Combine that with a slightly epic approach and powerful singing - then you get an idea of what to expect from Virgin Steele's "The marriage of heaven and hell (part 1)". Many of the songs are well written and rather melodic. As the opening "I will come for you" kicks off, there's obvious similarities to Iron Maiden both regarding the music as well as the Bruce Dickinson-like vocals. Other songs, like the beginning of "Weeping of the spirits" bare connection to Ronnie James Dio's way of musical structuring. You can even sense a touch of Metallica ("Black album"), for example in the guitar riff to "Last supper". Virgin Steele have also included ballads/slow songs of rather good quality, like "Forever will I roam" and "House of dust". But the real highlights are the captivating and attractive "Blood and gasoline" with its very good drive, and "Life among the ruins" that have a great melodic chorus.

"The marriage of heaven and hell (part 1)" is a solid album in the Power Metal vein and should please fans of traditional metal, free from anything that can be regarded as NU-Metal, Hardcore, or whatever it's called these days.
