About the Author
Gene Thomas Gomulka is the author of the Marriage and Military Life inventory and the developer of two interactive computer programs, The Survival Guide for Marriage in the Military and Before Saying "I Do." These interactive tools for dating, engaged and married couples are based upon over 30 years of counseling experience and input provided by hundreds of military and civilian couples. His interactive computer programs and relationship inventory are designed to help promote better relationships and marriages while reducing high civilian and military divorce rates, spouse abuse, and even suicides that often stem from problematic relationships. A native of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, he earned a B.A. in Philosophy from St. Francis University in Loretto, PA and an S.T.L. from the Angelicum University in Rome. After serving for five years as an associate pastor in State College, PA, the home of the Pennsylvania State University, he completed a 24 year military career as a Navy Chaplain. While serving as Deputy Chaplain, U.S. Marine Corps, he co-authored the core values of "Honor, Courage and Commitment" adopted by the Marine Corps and later embraced by the Navy. In 1999 the Secretary of the Navy presented him with the Navy Leagues "Alfred Thayer Mahan Award" for "literary achievement and inspirational leadership." Captain Gomulka's personal decorations include the Legion of Merit (three awards), the Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal and various other service and campaign medals and ribbons.
