Book Description

Lauren is headed back to school, this time not as a fun-loving coed but to achieve her dream of turning the family farm into Idaho’s first Heritage Seed Center. Selling organic produce at the local farmers market, she meets Miles. After an unexpected act of kindness toward her daughter, Lauren agrees to one date.

As a VP and heir apparent to HN Seeds, the family business, Miles unknowingly holds the future of Lauren’s farm in his hands. Lauren’s looking for anything but a romance. She’s got too much on her plate to risk the distraction. But he plays the one card Lauren can’t resist, family. Miles needs Lauren and her daughter to feel at home. And Lauren needs Miles and his large extended family more than she knows. But can she forgive the one betrayal that would ruin all of her plans for the future?

When an organic farming activist meets the heir apparent for the corporate farm that’s buying up the small farmers all around her, she only agrees to one date to thank him for a kindness to her daughter. Will she be able to stand firm when he offers her the world, in exchange for selling the only home they’ve ever had?

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Hi Readers,
Marriage Not Included is one of my favorite stories.  Set in my home towns (where I grew up, went to college, and raised a family) it gives readers a nice taste of what living in small town Idaho is like. Reading the book is like going home.
Lauren's passion about organic gardening and farming techniques brings her story into today's world where we're trying to return to a more natural way of eating.
Let me know what you think,

I always enjoy a book where families and love are more important than work and money. Lauren, carries a load of single mother, ailing father-in-law and his farm, her job and trying to keep a large corporation from trying to buy up the farm and land. Miles returns home at the request of his father to take over the families large see company trying to buy up farmland. He has struggled and failed to meet his father's expectations all his life. Miles is a caring, thoughtful man attempting to win the woman he loves, while at the same time make his father happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful story of love and family struggles October 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Lauren Simpson meets Miles Hamilton at a farmer's market where he befriends her and her daughter, Emma while providing much needed strength.

Lauren's father passes on a legacy, the management of the farm her father and Grandfather owned. She works alongside her grandfather to turn the place into a working farm that produces seeds, teaches organic gardening and offers classes.

Unfortunately, Miles is associated with HN seeds a company that wants to take over her farm to expand its business. Miles is torn between the wishes of his father, and his attraction for Lauren.

Their families get intertwined to the point that Miles has to find a way to make both sides happy in order to maintain a relationship with Lauren.

Lynn does a great job of drawing you into the life of a single mother filled with strength and tenacity, determined to take care of her family and family heritage, not to mention a hero that is equally likable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short and Sweet September 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Marriage Not Included is a great read. Families with opposing views on life in general and careers in particular, form a backdrop for these two people not looking for happy ever after. Neither consider that attraction can play tricks on the unwary--or even the wary. With a stubborn streak and fighting against his feeling for Lauren, Miles makes mistake after mistake. When everything should go smoothly, it falls apart. The reader is there when Miles and Lauren fall in love and the heartache that follows. Although true love never runs on an even path, are there too many bumps in the road to overcome for this couple? Will Miles be able to make amends for following his own path regardless of how it might hurt Lauren and her daughter, or will they agree to go their separate ways, each longing for the other. Follow these two strong-willed characters as they run against the brick wall of life. Well worth the read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Weekend Read July 29, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Ms. Cahoon has written a lovely tale with a beautifully crafted plot and dynamic, loveable characters.

Lauren's life has not been easy, but she's focused on getting her college degree, helping her father-in-law keep the family farm, and raising her six-year old daughter. When she and Miles meet at a farmer's market, there's an immediate attraction. Despite her attempts to fight her reaction to Miles, Lauren finds herself drawn to him more and more.

Their relationship quickly gets complicated when Lauren learns Miles works for the large seed company that's determined to buy the farm out from under her family. What's worse, his father's owns the company, and its Miles job to acquire the farm.

I thoroughly enjoyed both Lauren and Miles. Ms. Cahoon created multi-dimensional characters who were realistic I could relate to. There were a few unexpected surprises too, and up until the very end, I kept wondering if Miles and Lauren would get their happily ever after.

Marriage Not Included is a quick, light, easy read with enough sexual tension to keep the plot interesting, but not dominate the story. I closed the book with a little sigh of satisfaction.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sweet, realistic romance July 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
MARRIAGE NOT INCLUDED by Lynn Cahoon respectfully presents love, actually, with all its complex issues, and is a good read when you are looking for a realistic romance. I give it 3 stars.

In MARRIAGE NOT INCLUDED, Miles Hamilton, the heir to large corporation HN Seeds, meets single-mom Lauren Simpson at her farmers' market booth one afternoon. A few hours in the company of Lauren and her daughter, Emma, and Miles is hooked. It's too bad his dad's company is trying to buy Lauren's family farm, a farm which Lauren hopes to turn into a heritage seed farm in a few years' time.

While they go out on a few dates, life happens; family health issues intervene, and Lauren feels so out of Miles' league, she cannot see a future for them. Miles can't see anything BUT a future for them and has to figure out how to solve everyone's problems so he can get the girl.

I liked MARRIAGE NOT INCLUDED. To say that I enjoyed it would be a little inappropriate, though, since the book deals with difficult real life situations. The characters and their problems are well-illustrated, e.g., when a single mom dates someone, there are 3 people involved in that relationship - mom, child and significant other. The worries and concerns of each of the characters are different based on their individual situations and histories. I really appreciate that kind of character illustration; it makes the book more realistic and relatable.

As for the romantic development, I felt it was a little on the hasty side. I didn't get a clear picture of the time frame, but it seemed like Miles was in love at first sight, with Lauren following about a month later.
