Editorial Reviews

Review

Ever since grade school Maddie Brannigan and Clayton James have been badgering, playing pranks and trying to best each other and they're still doing it! Even though Maddie is a successful art gallery owner and Clay works with his brothers in their construction company, these seemingly immature adults just can't seem to help themselves. She's the spur under his saddle and he's the thorn in her side and, while it's obvious to those who know them, Maddie and Clay just don't get it! So Emma and Garrett James have decided to take matters into their own hands - they deposit and strand Maddie and Clay together at a cabin in the mountains for tens days - alone, and hope they come to their senses and don't kill each other. What have all these years of battles really been about? Maddie and Clay both come to the realization that they love each other, but they won't admit it, at least to the other person. And all these years of pent up passion finally find release, not once, but twice and still these stubborn people won't admit the truth. But now Maddie has some news to share with Clay and when she does, she releases him from any and all obligations but Clay will have none of that! The problem is how can he convince Maddie to marry him for all the right reasons? A superbly written story that has just the right touch of all the integral elements to make this light romp a truly wonderful romance. Cindy Gerard is at her best and her dynamite new romance Marriage Outlaw Style proves it! Romance, when written by Cindy Gerard just doesn't get any better! This could be a Tracy and Hepburn movie! A romantic comedy in book form that's sure to please! Gloria Miller -- Copyright © 030199 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times

5.0 out of 5 stars Very humorous, July 12, 2004
This review is from: Marriage Outlaw Style (Outlaw Hearts) (Silhouette Desire, No. 1185) (Paperback)
Maddie Brannigan and Clay James have been bitter rivals since childhood. Despite that, it's clear to Clay's family that the two of them belong together. The family devises a plan to strand Maddie and Clay at a secluded mountain cabin. The hope is that during a week's time they will work through their differences and admit their true feelings for each other. Indeed, Maddie and Clay each come to realize that they're in love with the other--of course, they'll never admit it. After they return, Maddie discovers she's pregnant, and Clay is determined to marry her. When she refuses, he sets out to change her mind. Fortunately, he knows just the way to do that, thanks to a conversation they'd shared in which Maddie had given him specific details about what it would take to win her heart.

Maddie and Clay do spend way too much time bickering with each other, and after a while the reader's saying, "Enough already!". However, the book is well written, extremely humorous through out, and (despite the bickering) I loved the characters. I found this at a used bookstore, and I'm so glad I picked it up. It's definitely going on my `keeper shelf'.

4.0 out of 5 stars :), April 17, 2001
This review is from: Marriage Outlaw Style (Outlaw Hearts) (Silhouette Desire, No. 1185) (Paperback)
Maddie and Clay have battled each other since childhood. They were always trying to one up the other one. They thrived on the competition and loved to win. Lately, however, things have felt different. There is a lot of sexual tension in the air that everyone that loves them can see, but them. So, Clays family, which happens to include Maddie as if she were one of them, decide to give this couple a little push. The James family arranges for Clay and Maddie to be stranded in the family cabin in the mountains. There is no way to put it except all hell breaks lose. When the family comes to get them a week later they never expected to see actual blood and bruises. Maddie and Clay are so stubborn that they deny whats in front of there faces. Until Maddie gets more than she bargains for from there little trip in the mountains.

The rivalry between the two is hilarious. Although, the constant denying of what they are feeling gets old after awhile. More often than not I was feeling sorry for Clay. This book is still better than the first one in the series. And I can not wait to read about the last brother in the series, Jesse.
