4.0 out of 5 stars sparks fly, October 16, 2011
This review is from: Marriage At A Price (The Australians) (Harlequin Presents) (Paperback)
Marriage at a Price is Miranda Lee's 40th novel. Courtney Cross is the independent, spirited owner of the Crosswinds horse stud farm. But after her mother's death, she finds she is deep in debt and may lose the farm unless she finds a silent business partner. When investment broker, Jack Falconer, says he knows just the man, Courtney isn't expecting the deal that is offered. Sparks fly between Courtney and Jack, with each determined to get their own way. The legacy that Courtney has from her single mother, Hilary, is not just the Crosswinds stud, but her independence and her opinion of men, however flawed that may have been. Another great Aussie romance with a few hot sex scenes.

I probably would've liked this book if I liked the heroine a little more. Some Harlequin books have heroines who are doormats, Miranda Lee went 180 degrees and created a heroine who I felt was just too aggressive.

I get that she's supposed to be a rough and tumble, uncouthed, loud-mouthed rancher, especially considering who her mother was and how she was raised, but still; I found myself cringing every time she opened her mouth. If I were the hero (Jack) I'd be afraid to take her out in public much less to anything requiring a modicum of etiquette. Still, it did make it fun when he took charge and tamed her.

As always, Miss Lee sex scenes were toe-curlingly steamy. Especially the barn scene.

All in all, an okay read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hot & Steamy, June 4, 2001

This review is from: Marriage At A Price (The Australians) (Harlequin Presents) (Paperback)
Marinda Lee books are always of very modern women, "Marrige for a price" take modern to a new level. If you have ever wanted to get inside the pages of a book and yell @ the heroine to speak up then you will love Courtney, she is not shy, she beatuful and knows what she want, and she want Jack. She need Jacks financial help to save her horse breeding farm, but Jack offer her marrige instead. We could have done without Jack ex-girlfriend, I don't think she was needed. Courtney independence and belief that she does not need anyone is enough for the couple to overcome. The seen in the Barn is fabulous!!!, definately not for the faint of hart.
