This is a great book for anyone having marital problems or wanting to rekindle their marriage or even those that just want to take their marriage vows seriously and commit to their spouse 100% and live together as God intended us to from the beginning. I loved the fact that this book wasn't something you read and then wonder how to make it apply to you. It used biblical scripture and when you read it, it all becomes so crystal clear. Marriages can survive, marriages can be wonderful everlasting partnerships, if we take the vows seriously and we do what God expects, and the amazing thing is, it's really not a hard thing to do. The book is a pleasure to read and really makes you look at your life, not only from a marriage perspective, but on a personal, spiritual level. I highly recommend this book, and i have read many, none of them compare.

This book is an excellent guidence manual for those who are preparing to be married and for married couples who want to have a terrific God Filled marriage.

Jimmy Evan's explains God's expectations of the husband to lead the family in a Christian filled union. This book is not a hell bent instruction manual for wive's to be submissive to a husband. Instead explains God's requirements of a couple together in a Christian marriage.

The laws of Priority, Pusuit, Possession and Purity are straight forward and biblically based. Definately will offer a couple points to discuss together.

I also found the sections on How to understand and meet your Wife's needs and How to understand and meet your husband's needs quite interesting. At 40 something I thought I understood men, boy was I wrong!

The section on Skills for sexual pleasure explains God's desire for you to have a healthy Christian based sexual relationship. (Yes, God thinks sex in a marriage is a good thing!) This book explains what the bible teaches is right and wrong in regards to sexual pleasures and practices.

There also offers biblical instruction on Communication, Finances, Parenting and relationships with your in-laws.

Jimmy Evans also discusses how you can build a Christian marriage on your own if you do not have a spouse activily participating in the study with you.

This book is definately an instruction manual on how to have and maintain a Christian marriage. I will share this book with all my friends who are married or preparing to be married and maintain a copy in our family library for future reference.

This is one of the best and most balanced Christian books I have ever read on marriage. So many books on Christian marriage are trite - Christian claptrap - with silly, insipid advice. This book actually includes practical suggestions for dealing with the real problems of marriage. Even more refreshing is the author's frankness about the terrible effects on our society of fatherless families and the need for fathers to pay attention to their wives and children without dominating the family. Wow, finally someone willing to speak the truth.

Also, few Christian books address single parenting or marriages in which one person is doing all the work - this one does AND offers practical advice on how to deal with these very common situations. It addresses what happens when a husband puts his job first, cheats, or simply won't work on the marriage. It also addresses what happens when a woman is demanding, cold or critical. The discussion on sex is better than most Christian books if a litle bit dated (definitely written from the older male's perspective).

My one critique: this book, while better than most Christian books when it comes to explaining the Christian wife, does not address the prevalance of working wives and the effects on the family when MOM cheats, is working too much, or no longer wants to work on the marriage. It's time for contemporary Christians to wake up and realize that it's no longer just Dad who's not keeping the home fires burning. Few Christian books seem to want to deal with this particular issue even though it is increasingly prevalent.

Even with this minor critique, though, I HIGHLY recommend this book. It is much better than "The Power of a Praying Wife" or similar nonsense books that give endless examples from the author's own (relatively easy) marriage and very little solid advice. "Marriage on the Rock" includes behavioral solutions that address serious marital problems, while of course incorporating prayer. Plus, Dr. Evans clearly has done enough counseling that he knows a lot about what he writes and can provide real-world examples. His presentation is not sugary or pie-in-the-sky and he doesn't pretend that all marriages will work...but his advice on making them better is excellent.

Finally a relationship book has been created based on what your marriage needs! He continually describes the reasons why marriage should get better and better every year. I have read just about every book out there, but this one walks you through step by step and relates to the Word of God. He writes about the 4 kinds of destructive wifes/husbands and helps to end the destruction. Overall, it is a wonderful book.

This is the best one source my wife and I have found regarding marriage. The author is practical and comprehensive, covering everything from sex to dealing with your in-laws! We had a good marriage before reading this book, but we now have a happier and more fulfilling marriage by applying the principles that were in "Marriage on the Rock". I really would encourage any couple, whether they are on the brink of divorce, or want to take achieve a greater level of intimacy, to get this book.

This is one of those books you read because you don't want to stop reading it. To the point, Mr. Evans provides a lot of "meat" without extra fluff. It helped me to communicate my needs and understand my future husband's needs.

The book was so good that when a non-christian man I barely knew told me his wife left him, I offered to lend him the book. The reasons his wife left him were straight out of the book. (She had asked him to go to counceling a year earlier but he refused because he didn't think there was anything wrong.) He also really enjoyed the book and said that it opened his eyes to see the error of his ways. His wife noticed the change in him. He explained about me and he lent her the book. At first she asked him if I was a weak woman allowing myself to "submit". He explained that I am an outspoken, career woman so she finished reading it. His wife saw the error of her own ways and how her reactions to his bad behavior was also damaging their realationship.

The book has changed the way all three of us, christian and non-christian, understand marriage. The great news was that you can work at and get those good feelings back again with your spouse. This book is fair and two sided. It doesn't blame the wife or the husband. I would highly recommend this book.

I wish I had read this book 32 years ago before I was married. Jimmy Evans shows God's plan for marriage in such a simple way. He uses scripture to back up everything he says. After putting into practice what God has told us all along, I see our marriage only getting better and better. I'm not much of a reader but this is a book that you want to hurry and finish and begin applying the principles because you know that it'll work. Jimmy Evans is to be commended for being faithful to follow God's leadership and put this book together. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to save their marriage and/or to make it all that God intends for our marriage.

This book has been a tremendous encouragment and challenge to me, a wife who is seeking to forgive and rebuild a 30 year marriage rocked by infidelity. Even though I have heard many of the same principles over the years, the author has a very down-to-earth conversational style with an uncanny way of helping us understand the differences between men and women. The book has been a good 'counselor' to me at a time when I have needed good, Biblical counsel that wasn't just "pie in the sky" perfection. My husband and I have been able to talk about many of the subjects and it has helped us understand better that regardless of the past, we have a future to build...together with the Lord!

This book has a very simple message: God has a plan for your marriage to work and if you follow that plan, chances are your marriage will turn out a whole lot better than if you try doing it according to the world. His plan is obviously already in the Bible, but for the modern busy society where everything has to come in perfect little bite-sizes and searching through scriptures takes too long, author and pastor Jimmy Evans has broken it into more manageable pieces. I strongly recommend this book both to those already married and to those who are yet waiting for 'the right one." Why not educate yourself as to what your role in marriage is really supposed to be, before you find yourself struggling to understand what went wrong. My husband and I both love this book and would like to share it with everyone.

This book has really been helpful - coming from a couple who has experienced heartache in marriage, they offer practical tips for growing your marriage. The focus on God as the center of your marriage and on changing your own attitudes and behavior is key. Great investment in your marriage!
