Format: Hardcover
In "The Marriage Story," author Dennis Green has penned the story of his marriage to Mary Lou, from that first magic "I love you" moment through the many trials and tribulations that any lasting marriage must endure and overcome to survive. His story is no syrupy Valentine's Day sentiment. It's the real story of his marriage, with the good times and the bad times, including one of the biggest marriage-killers: the gradual drifting away that happens almost without a couple realizing it, until one day, they're like strangers to each other. Fortunately for the Greens, an acquaintance's terminal illness spurred them to rekindle the flames of their marriage.

Two things made the story stand out for me. First, it was written as a narrative poem. Second, the author has violated a cardinal rule for men: Never open up and reveal your true feelings, it's a sign of weakness. That's not true, of course, but in our culture, that's the way we're brought up, and it's not easy for a man to be this open and honest. So kudos to Dennis Green for disregarding the rules and telling this marvelous story of his marriage, and for having the courage to publish it.

Full disclosure: I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review, which I have done to the best of my ability.

A lovely poem and a lasting reminder of the importance of marriage and how easily what is important can slip away if you don't make it a priority. It came into my life at the perfect moment and I would recommend to any couple - those just starting out and those who have weathered the storm.

This wonderful poem served as a reminder of how important marriage is, and how easy it is to lose it. I was inspired to not sit complacently by while time passes and my marriage just "goes through the motions". Marriage is meant to be so much more than that...as evidenced in the story. A sweet compelling reminder for those of us who have been married a while.

As I read the words on each page, I couldn't help but picture myself on the pages. At times I couldn't read the words, as the tears clouded my vision. I am not a reader and I was worried that I wouldn't be able to finish it in a good amount of time. But it took me less than 20 minutes, could have taken me less if I wasn't crying most of the book. Very touching! And for sure worth reading!

This short little book packs a large amazing reminder about keeping the things that are important in mind and not letting the day to day grind wear away your relationship. It is a beautiful story that anyone can relate to. I would definitely say not only to get this book but to pull it out at least one a year and remember why you fell in love.

I loved this book! It wasn't what I was expecting, but it was great! It was a good reminder of not getting too caught up in the busyness of life and to take time to slow down and enjoy one another.
