This review is from: The Marriage Ultimatum (Kindle Edition)
This was a great book - it's about Kris and Derek - Derek is a widower with a young daughter (Mollie) and is a Veternarian - he bought Kris's father's veterinary practice and lives in Kris's childhood home which he and his wife bought from her when her father died. Kris is about ten years his junior and works part time as an accountant. At the beginning of the book, we learn that she has been Mollie's primary caretaker since she was born - she was very close to Derek and his wife who was sick and died a couple of months after Mollie's birth. That was three years ago and Kris is in love with Derek and wants to marry him and be a full-time mother to Mollie, who she also loves very much. She suggests to Derek that they marry because Mollie is starting to call her Mommy and they spend most of their free time together anyway - she even cooks his evening meals and shares them with him, working on her accounting business while Mollie sleeps and in the evenings and on the weekends. Derek is shocked at the suggestion and doesn't react well - he actually laughs - he has been celibate since his wife's death and has no intention of getting involved with another woman or marrying again. He also thinks of Kris as a child since he and his wife were her guardians for a couple of months before she turned 18 when her father died. Kris decides then and there that things are going to have to change - she tells him that it's not fair to her or to Mollie for things to continue the way they are. She helps Derek get Mollie placed in a good child care facility and stops spending all of her free time with him. She gets a new temporary full-time job, starts dressing nicer and begins dating. This sends Derek into a tailspin as he realizes that Kris is NOT a little girl anymore, but a very attractive woman. The rest of the book is about their developing relationship - it is very well-written and the love scenes were SMOKING HOT!! The hero goes from seeing the heroine as a child to desiring her as a woman and being very jealous. It was very refreshing to see a heroine with a backbone who refused to waste the rest of her life mourning for what she thought she couldn't have - instead, she brushed herself off and made a concerted effort to meet other men, so she could fulfill her dream of one day having her own family. Seeing that she was serious about letting go and moving on did more to wake the hero up than having a pitcher of cold water poured on his head! I also found it really refreshing that the hero wasn't sleeping with anything in a skirt - before Kris, his only lover had been his wife. Kris herself is not a virgin, but has only had one lover several years ago in college. I highly recommend this book.
