5.0 out of 5 stars Another Enjoyable Trip to Pemberley, September 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was delighted with the second installment in Mary L. Sherwood's A Marriage Worth the Earning series, For Better or Worse. I started out at a leisurely pace, wanting to savor the experience, but then the plot(s) thickened, and I could hardly put it down. Elizabeth and Darcy keep building their relationship after past misunderstandings, in spite of all the relatives! Georgiana and the Colonel carry things along, but I enjoyed the other stories as well. I think Mary got her best subplot ever. And other characters got their "just desserts," especially Caroline and Collette (an interfering old flame). And you'll never believe how many offspring are left at Longbourne! Very satisfying.

Ms. Sherwood has certainly left plenty of loose ends and potential conflicts for the next volume. Will Georgie get to use her trunk? And where o where is Lydia .... are we going to war? Obviously, I am looking forward to the next installment. Another delightful trip to Pemberley

5.0 out of 5 stars A Pride and Prejudice Sequel Worthy of Recommendation, September 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Ms. Sherwood's Volume 1 is my favorite Pride and Prejudice Sequel so far. I'm rereading Volume 2 as I write this.
Ms. Sherwood has once again hit the nail on the head with the famous Jane Austen characters from Pride and Prejudice. As in Volume 1 the characters personalities truly spring to life. This is truly more than a quick read tho' you can do both read it for fun or put the effort into reading it to savor each bite of paragraph along the way. There is exquisite dialogue and communication between characters. So much so we wish we had this in our own families in real time today. The dialogue is witty and will have you on the edge of your seat. This book will help you enjoy the little things in life as well as the major issues in life from a different vantage point. The things we don't do often anymore such as enjoying cloud formations and trying to decide what they look like to the wonderful illustrations about piano lessons will benefit us all. (I even did that today on a long drive home.) The book starts off with a review of volume 1 which is important to tie us in to events the characters have already experienced but even if you haven't read volume 1 you'll understand volume 2. You're just better prepared for this intricately detailed story. The intimacy is tastefully described as before. There is so much humor that in many spots I was laughing out loud and making my camping neighbors wonder what was going on. I could hardly put the book down. It's easy to get on a roll and just be unable to stop reading. The duel had me at the letter d. The midwifery engaged in by Mary a new thought for me. And Mrs. Bennet is a total shocker. Ms. Sherwood's book shows so much insight into human lives emotional, physical, spiritual. It's all included. There's not one smirk out of place. The intimacy between Darcy and Elizabeth shows how to love and support our families. Georgiana's innocence and reputation are so carefully constructed. Do we help our teens today to see the need for a good reputation? Do we cherish the bonds we have with others like the characters in this book? It is truly an amazing book and I'm not even finished reading it. After skimming ahead and reading the majority of it quickly I had to start over and reread it to savor each morsel as I'm sure others will enjoy doing as well. It truly is like enjoying a long, well balanced and very special meal with a friend. I did however feel the end was a bit sad for me after rereading this entire novel. Volume 3 should be great and will hopefully put our minds to rest.

This book is excellent and arrived in perfect condition. I actually bought this copy for a friend. Someone had purchased it for me, and I wanted to share this continuation of Pride & Prejudice with all my other friends.
