5.0 out of 5 stars Another Enjoyable Trip to Pemberley
I was delighted with the second installment in Mary L. Sherwood's A Marriage Worth the Earning series, For Better or Worse. I started out at a leisurely pace, wanting to savor the experience, but then the plot(s) thickened, and I could hardly put it down. Elizabeth and Darcy keep building their relationship after past misunderstandings, in spite of all the relatives...

3.0 out of 5 stars One writer's opinion
I enjoyed the book but I find the characters more aloof than in some "what if" books I've read.Darcy is still a bit too imperious and cold. I expected there to be fewer misunderstandings and a warmer relationship between Darcy and Lizzy. I want Darcy and Lizzy and their passion and love for each other to be the mayor focus and I didn't feel the book portrayed that as well...

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Enjoyable Trip to Pemberley, September 5, 2010

I was delighted with the second installment in Mary L. Sherwood's A Marriage Worth the Earning series, For Better or Worse. I started out at a leisurely pace, wanting to savor the experience, but then the plot(s) thickened, and I could hardly put it down. Elizabeth and Darcy keep building their relationship after past misunderstandings, in spite of all the relatives! Georgiana and the Colonel carry things along, but I enjoyed the other stories as well. I think Mary got her best subplot ever. And other characters got their "just desserts," especially Caroline and Collette (an interfering old flame). And you'll never believe how many offspring are left at Longbourne! Very satisfying.

Ms. Sherwood has certainly left plenty of loose ends and potential conflicts for the next volume. Will Georgie get to use her trunk? And where o where is Lydia .... are we going to war? Obviously, I am looking forward to the next installment. Another delightful trip to Pemberley

5.0 out of 5 stars A Pride and Prejudice Sequel Worthy of Recommendation, September 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Ms. Sherwood's Volume 1 is my favorite Pride and Prejudice Sequel so far. I'm rereading Volume 2 as I write this.
Ms. Sherwood has once again hit the nail on the head with the famous Jane Austen characters from Pride and Prejudice. As in Volume 1 the characters personalities truly spring to life. This is truly more than a quick read tho' you can do both read it for fun or put the effort into reading it to savor each bite of paragraph along the way. There is exquisite dialogue and communication between characters. So much so we wish we had this in our own families in real time today. The dialogue is witty and will have you on the edge of your seat. This book will help you enjoy the little things in life as well as the major issues in life from a different vantage point. The things we don't do often anymore such as enjoying cloud formations and trying to decide what they look like to the wonderful illustrations about piano lessons will benefit us all. (I even did that today on a long drive home.) The book starts off with a review of volume 1 which is important to tie us in to events the characters have already experienced but even if you haven't read volume 1 you'll understand volume 2. You're just better prepared for this intricately detailed story. The intimacy is tastefully described as before. There is so much humor that in many spots I was laughing out loud and making my camping neighbors wonder what was going on. I could hardly put the book down. It's easy to get on a roll and just be unable to stop reading. The duel had me at the letter d. The midwifery engaged in by Mary a new thought for me. And Mrs. Bennet is a total shocker. Ms. Sherwood's book shows so much insight into human lives emotional, physical, spiritual. It's all included. There's not one smirk out of place. The intimacy between Darcy and Elizabeth shows how to love and support our families. Georgiana's innocence and reputation are so carefully constructed. Do we help our teens today to see the need for a good reputation? Do we cherish the bonds we have with others like the characters in this book? It is truly an amazing book and I'm not even finished reading it. After skimming ahead and reading the majority of it quickly I had to start over and reread it to savor each morsel as I'm sure others will enjoy doing as well. It truly is like enjoying a long, well balanced and very special meal with a friend. I did however feel the end was a bit sad for me after rereading this entire novel. Volume 3 should be great and will hopefully put our minds to rest.

5.0 out of 5 stars for better or worse?.....DEFINATELY BETTER!!!, September 4, 2010

In the second volume of A Marriage Worth the Earning Sherwood brings back all the same characters with more charm, drama and twisting plots... the ending left me on the edge of my seat! I cannot wait to see how it all pans out in volume 3.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm hooked on these P&P sequels, September 23, 2010

This review is from: A Marriage Worth the Earning: Volume 2, For Better for Worse: A Pride and Prejudice Sequel (Kindle Edition)
After much anticipation, I received Volume 2 of this P&P sequel and was more than delighted with Ms. Sherwood's continued vision of the ups and downs that Elizabeth & Mr. Darcy would no doubt experience during their first year of marriage. Once I started reading it, I didn't want to put it down. Bought a second copy of both volumes as a gift for a friend who is a fan of P&P.

A nice surprise was the development of storylines regarding some of the lesser mentioned characters from P&P.

I can't wait to see what happens next in Volume 3. If it's as good as Volume 2 it will be well worth the wait.

I read the 1st novel and have been waiting biting my nails for this next book. It was wonderful and answered some questions left hanging in the 1st novel and like a good book left us hanging in the end so we are at the edge of our seats waiting for the next book. Mary, shows both Lizzy and Darcy's characters to have good and bad traits as we all have. We also see the characters develope and make mistakes and moove on. I think that is what I like about the book, it seems plausable. There are also twists with certain characters that give us the wow factor. This book was well worth reading. loved it very much and can't wait for vol 3. Thanks

4.0 out of 5 stars Exciting First Year Continues, September 7, 2010

The second installment of this series turned out well with regard to the dynamic between Darcy and Elizabeth as well as the other characters. It's really refreshing to read a sequel that doesn't alter the dispositions of Austen's characters. The story line continues where the first book left off, literally, you can put down book one and page one of book two keeps right on going. If you haven't read the first one, don't start here.

I love the way Ms. Sherwood creates conflict between Darcy and Elizabeth. The disagreements and misunderstandings seem genuine and you really feel like this is how they may have acted with each other during their first year of marriage. The story line for Georgiana and Colonel Fitzwilliam is a little predictable (although a little creepy for my tastes - why do authors always want to see this older man marry this young girl that he helped raise?) but there are definitely some surprises.

The ending of the book felt a little cluttered because of the large number of story lines occurring in the final pages. There were way too many unanswered questions to just end the book the way it ended. I'm left feeling very unsatisfied with regard to the story resolution but can't wait for the third installment so that my mind can be eased. Maybe that was the author's intent, keep us on the edge of our seats till the next volume.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great improvement..., July 10, 2011
This review is from: A Marriage Worth the Earning: Volume 2, For Better for Worse: A Pride and Prejudice Sequel (Kindle Edition)
I found this book to be a great improvement over the first. The author has fixed most of what bothered me in the first book, namely Darcy and Elizabeth fighting like overly dramatic teenagers every five minutes, and the same conflicts happening over and over but no one learning from them. I spent a great deal of this book wondering when Lord Hazelton will have a painful meeting with karma, but as in life, the bad guys don't always get their just desserts. I was partially mollified by Collette getting hers at the hands of a difficult French maid. Yvette is my new hero! I enjoyed the unusual courtship with Mary and the good doctor- Mary on morphine alone makes the book worth the read! I look forward the third installment.
