5.0 out of 5 stars Married to Distraction
I found this book to be extremely insightful, practical, and hopeful. Communicating in the 21st century is often fast, easy and constant...but not always meaningful or worthwhile. This book offers guidance for those who want to nurture and enjoy a special relationship while managing the demands of living in a fast-paced, high-tech world.

3.0 out of 5 stars good, but I wish it was great
Good book, but I wish it was more nuanced. It was too obvious in sections and did not present enough different situations. But it is good to see a book on older couples and hopefully will encourage more work dealing with this subject.

Married to Distraction is a very thought-provoking book and comes at a time when many people need to assess how to balance work and play.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crucial Guide to Relationships for Busy People, April 18, 2010
This review is from: Married to Distraction: Restoring Intimacy and Strengthening Your Marriage in an Age of Interruption (Hardcover)
Married to distraction is a great guide for navigating relationships in the age of distracting and time consuming technology. It includes a lot of great strategies for improving your relationship-- all packed into efficient lists and well organized chapters. I would highly recommend it for busy, working professionals or anyone who wants to jump start their marriage or relationship. You'd be surprised by how many relationship no no's you're guilty of!

Dr. Hallowell is an ADHD expert which makes this book particularly salient for people struggling with the disorder (they even throw in a chapter devoted to this)!

I highly recommend this book. Its a quick, entertaining, and encouraging read!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, but good, February 28, 2011

A friend told me this was promoted in a TV interview as being a book on marriage with an ADD partner. Having previously read Driven to Distraction by the same author, I expected this to be an illuminating guide to my daily reality. Unfortunately, only one chapter is really devoted to this; the bulk of the book deals with the general distractions of modern life which affect marriages without diagnosed ADD. Nonetheless, it does offer some very cogent ideas for focusing one's attention on what matters, and I did learn several useful points.

2.0 out of 5 stars Better as a magazine article, October 7, 2010
This review is from: Married to Distraction: Restoring Intimacy and Strengthening Your Marriage in an Age of Interruption (Hardcover)
I don't understand the point of this book. I read it, but I don't understand it.

Agreed with another review: lots of fluff here. It's not about being married to someone with Attention Deficit Disorder, though there is a chapter on it. Yet the authors talk about the "D" person in the relationship (the distracted) and the "O" person (the organizer") and plays out the dynamics for many pages. One calls the other a "selfish narcissist"and the other something else.

I think the authors are trying to broaden their audience outside the "ADHD Ghetto" but it doesn't work for me. It's neither fish nor fowl.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too much fluff, not enough substance, September 18, 2010

Too much fluff, not enough substance. Tends to wonder. Orlov's book on similar subject is better.

This review is from: Married to Distraction: Restoring Intimacy and Strengthening Your Marriage in an Age of Interruption (Hardcover)
If not for this book, our marriage would be over. It's not easy , but we are working on things. I recomend this to the ADD spouse, or to the not ADD spouse.

A very interesting read on modern life and how distraction affects our primary relationships. INcludes a 30-day plan for re-connecting with your partner and maintaining that intimacy.
