Book Description

May 2001
How can a husband and wife stay hot for one another after years of marriage? How can they get in the mood for sex when all they really want to do is sleep? What's the one thing that men say they don't get enough of-and women hunger for the most-in bed? How can men and women enhance each other's sexual fantasies? What are couples' biggest turn-ons, biggest gripes?

Get ready for the candid and sometimes surprising answers in Pamela Lister's new book, which is based on what real couples want and what real couples do. Lister, a Redbook contributing editor whose beat is sex and marriage, analyzed the answers of 10,000 men and women who were polled in two of the magazine's massive online sex surveys to find out what really turns couples on - and keeps them passionate for each other year after year. By combining the online survey results with advice from sex experts, Lister helps married couples figure out the little and big things they can do to gain more fulfillment in their marriages.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Redbook magazine contributing editor Lister (Redbook is a Hearst publication) conducted online sex surveys of approximately 5,000 married men and 5,ooo married women, wording the questions differently for each gender to maximize responses. Eschewing Masters & Johnson-style clinical profundity, Lister says people are interested in "weighing their patterns and desires against the perceived norm, against what's acceptable, against what you might think." The reversible dust jacket's underside sports the title Modern Tactics in Higher Education, so parents won't have to hide the book from their kids, or commuters from their neighbors (Book News, Apr. 9). Lister's language is peppered with slang like "horny," "boner," "grooving on each other" and "getting laid." What husbands and wives complain about, prefer and do (and how often) is discussed in a completely unprovocative way; reassurance and encouragement abound. Bottom line: if men did more housework and childcare, wives would be less tired and resentful and more likely to put out; and men want to see their wives naked more often. The "10 secrets" thus are hardly revelatory but provide common sense advice for a satisfying, long-lasting sex life: adventure, generosity, authenticity (don't fake orgasms), attention, courage (address problems jointly) unquestionably good advice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally--sex with a sense of humor!, May 9, 2001

This review is from: Married Lust: The 10 Secrets of Long Lasting Desire (Hardcover)
"Married Lust" overflows with great ideas (and ideas that definitely will be greatly appreciated by any man married to any woman who reads this book!) for keeping your marriage frisky. But what I loved most about it is Pamela Lister's down-to-earth attitude--this author has definitely been there, and she knows what it's like to try to find romance in a house full of children and laundry baskets. It's also explicit without being tacky; if you didn't know what was what and how to make the most of it before "Married Lust," you will after (and if you think you know what's what, check the book out anyway--you may be surprised). A great guide for passionate couples or couples who want to be passionate again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Reader from NJ, June 14, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Married Lust: The 10 Secrets of Long Lasting Desire (Hardcover)
What a fun book!!I'm very happily re-married (in our eighth year), and I truly didn't think there were any "secrets" left, but Pamela Lister has presented in a factual, yet playful way what we 2nd marrieds all know: the old dogs want new tricks! It's always comforting to hear the real voices and escapades of real couples. It was hilarious when my husband and I both commented "we do that!" (This is anonymous, right?). We loved the book, and it's a treat to read such information from a writer who can write Lust is Good: can't wait for the next 10 secrets¡

1.0 out of 5 stars Cliched Nonsense, June 6, 2001
This review is from: Married Lust: The 10 Secrets of Long Lasting Desire (Hardcover)
After wasting my money, I decided to help others avoid the same. You're better off with the quick peruse of any rag on the checkout line. This book is nothing but the same 'hot & sizzling' topics Redbook repackages every single month. Does anyone ever ask the question, isn't this last month's article, barely repositioned? This compilation of meaningless anecdotes insults the reader. Is there no limit a rag or writer will go to avoid an honest creative endeavor? Something worth publishing? Something worth paying for? Save your money but if you absolutely must, pick up the rag instead! It's much cheaper (and the other articles may hedge your investment)!
