I truly loved this story and the character, Miles Jordan really touched me. I had to dig deep to understand him. It was interesting getting a man's perspective about some of the reasons men feelings grow ill toward us women. The author did a great job capturing both character's views, gender wise. I guess we fail to relate to both sides without knowing some of the issues...

rue love never lives happily ever after - true love has no ending, and this quote sums up the way Kendra felt about Miles. In Married Man, the reader is introduced to Kendra Davis a very well put together business professional and Miles Jordan an intelligent smooth talking married man in love with his ex. Told from the male point of view, the reader will be taken on a trip through one woman's will to do anything for love and one man's struggle with choosing the right woman. Although a revisited plot, this story could have been a lot spicier, given the topic. With far too many mistakes, voice changes, and missing information, this book is confusing to say the least. It seems as though the author rushed this book, which may have been a worthwhile read if more time was put into it. Although the premise is there, I wish the author would have taken more time developing and perfecting her story.

1. What did you like best about this book?
I liked that the author chose to tell her story from a male's point of view.

2. What did you dislike about this book?
I didn't like that this book was not edited. The story was rushed and proved to be a frustrating read.

3. How can the author improve this book?
The story is there, but I would advise the author to consider an strong developmental edit before reprinting.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not going to go there, December 29, 2003

This review is from: Married Man (Paperback)
I read the excerpt and don't think I'll bother with the book. The writing is choppy, the style is like that of a cheesey romance novel, and the editing errors are distracting. I hope the author invests in an editor who offers honest feedback for her next effort.

2.0 out of 5 stars Let the Games Begin, December 25, 2003

Dorothy Goins weaves a tale of mistrust, lies and deceit in her novel entitled Married Man.

After being dumped by Miles Jordan, Kendra Davis picks up the pieces of her life and moves from Philadelphia to North Carolina. When she returns home to visit her mother, Miles stops by. Kendra takes one look at the man who broke her heart several years ago and realizes nothing has changed; she still loves him. There is only one problem - Miles is married. Even though Miles makes no promises to leave his wife, Kendra gives in to her feelings and moves back to Philadelphia. Once Kendra is back home, Miles goes from singing a melodious song called "I love you baby," to an off-key hum called "I need to stick around for my kids."

Although the plot was somewhat entertaining, I found this book to be poorly written. Oftentimes, the author took the reader from the thoughts of one character to another and back again. Throughout the book, Goins often switched from the voice of first person to third person. Further, the story did not follow proper sequence, which proved distracting. As I read the book, there were times when I felt as if the author rushed her writing. There were several instances when key decisions were made and the reader was not privy as to how the characters reached their conclusions.

For the reader that is not easily distracted by writing errors, this may prove an entertaining read.

I guess we fail to relate to both sides without knowing some of the issues involved. For me, this story has changed my views somewhat. I realize that communication is lacking in male/female relationships and though we think we're on the same page...we're not. The scenes are vivid and so are the characters in this story. I really connected.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't Mess With Them!, November 27, 2007

This review is from: Married Man (Paperback)
Miles and April Jordan have been married for nine years with two sons to show for it. The couple has successful careers, but lately their marriage seems to be lacking a very important ingredient...love.
April is more into her job and the kids than anything else. She works double shifts at the hospital and when she comes home the kids need her, so her excuse is she's tired and has no time for her husband.
Miles has had enough of April's mood swings "If she's nice that means she wants something from me" Miles thinks. But Miles is doing a lot more thinking about his ex girlfriend Kendra than about April. He sees now that he's made a big mistake by not marrying the one who his heart truly desires...Kendra.

Kendra Davis now lives in North Carolina where she is a successful business woman. Being a woman and black is already two strikes against her in the man's world of corporate business but Kendra can hold her own. She's strong and knows what she wants and is always one step ahead of the game, but does this hold true for her personal life?
When Kendra moved away from Philadelphia she had two deep wounds embedded into her heart, the death of her father and the breakup of the only man she truly loved Miles Jordan.

Miles and Kendra were young and in love when Miles broke it off with her for April. Kendra hasn't quite got over the fact that he actually married her! Up to this day she has never been able to truly open her heart to another man.

Kendra is now in Philly for the holidays visiting her mother. An unexpected visit from Miles stirs up unresolved feelings for them both resulting in a love affair plagued with lies and disappointments.

This couple's love is put to the test as the consequences for their actions bring havoc to both their lives!

This released novel proved to be a good read with a good ending. I think the character Miles was a very weak man, but thank goodness for great men like Osay!!
I wish the author had explored April's personality a little more...
My one issue with this book was how Miles could have set a romantic mood in the hotel if he didn't even know that Kendra was even in town!?!?!

If you are dating a married man or you are married and not showing your husband any attention you should read this story, you might learn a thing or two!

5.0 out of 5 stars Upbeat, April 8, 2004

This review is from: Married Man (Paperback)
I can see this book becoming a play. Married Man was off the chain! I really felt the emotions of the characters in this novel. Ms. Goins wrote a "for real" story and it isn't always easy to get me on the first page...she did. She really held my interest from the opening to the end. Kendra and Miles, what a dilemma. I loved me some Osay, though. I hope to see more novels from her. I felt like I knew these people and that's a craft...in fact, that's a talent. Keep writing, Ms. Goins. Can't wait for your next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars It is a Modern Day Love Affair Story, March 2, 2004

Yvonne Richards (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Married Man (Paperback)
I believe this book has the capabilities of being among the best sellers list. It is down to earth, it is reality, and makes you see how things really are. Dorothy Goins made it sound like we are the characters of the book, she actually made a part of me feel as if I were in this book myself. It was an extrodinary example of how some things in life can happen. I was impressed by her expressions of how the lives of the main characters match with every day life and that no matter how sucessful you are you can still deal with carma and fate. It was a dignifying novel and a must read for all; not only people of color but for anyone whom may come across a relationship of this sort and a plus for anyone who enjoys reading a true to life love story. I highly recommend this book to those of you that may have or may not have experienced this type of endeavor, because it can be enjoyed by all. It is an adult book and may be a little explicit for those who are not of age and maturity but enough for the imaginaion. I would like to see it on the Big Screen, as compared to Terry McMillian's; Waiting to Exhale, Dissapearing Acts, and How Stella got her groove back. Dorothy is an excellent with in her writing, because she actually writes the way she see it, and you should not expect anything more or less from an author. I enjoyed the book and am hoping for a sequil to follow. I hope that Dorothy and her book is successful, and I myself can't wait for a part two.

5.0 out of 5 stars Off the hizzy!, April 17, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Married Man (Paperback)
... To be up front and correct, I liked this book. I read Married Men...and then I saw this book, thinking hey...wait a minute. But, no comparison...Married MAN is off the hizzy. I couldn't stop cracking up. The situations Miles found himself dealing with is almost comparable to some stuff some of my boys is dealing with. Not quite like, Miles, but hey not too far from the same ole "stuff". Step up...be a man, Miles. Don't be taking that ... P>This book is good, and full of good laughs...but overall, it's on point!

4.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put the book down, April 17, 2003
By
This review is from: Married Man (Paperback)
This novel is gripping, so much that I couldn't put the book down. I had to know what was happening next.

I like, in particular, how the author takes a look into both character's present lives and combines their world. Kendra is smart, and she's a woman on the go. As for Miles, he can just step. It's enough that men are messing up their relationships. And some women are driving them right out the door. But, I just think Miles needs to make up his mind which woman he wanna be with.

This book is definitely going to be discussed in our book club this upcoming month!
