This was the first book I'd read by Lisa Hendrix, and to be truthful, what caught my eye was the beautiful cover. By the time I finished, I felt I'd definitely gotten my money's worth.

3.0 out of 5 stars A very difficult one to rate
The premise for this book is terrific, as are many of the characters introduced. However, the execution of the story left something to be desired. I well and truly wanted to like this book more than I ended up liking it. Why?

Partly because of the writing. Author Hendrix is American, which surprised me because the book read as though it had been written and...

This was the first book I'd read by Lisa Hendrix, and to be truthful, what caught my eye was the beautiful cover. By the time I finished, I felt I'd definitely gotten my money's worth.

Ms. Hendrix paints an enticing word portrait of Irish village life as I remembered it from my visit to Ireland. She has also created a believable love story with a hero and heroine who possess human failings, but who also possess the ability to know when they are wrong and apologize. I enjoyed the interaction between Brian Hanrahan and Tara O'Connell and would have liked to have seen more focus on the storyline between Tara and Brian, involving Brian's business ventures and Tara's perceptions and prejudices about them and Brian, although the storyline involving the women of Kilbooly was entertaining.

If you are looking for a way to spend an evening or two absorbing the flavor of Ireland and getting a warm, enjoyable love story in the process, then this book is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Myshelf.Com Book Reviewer, January 5, 2002

Reporter Tara Brid O'Connell is determined to do a story on rich Irish playboy, Brian Hanrahan. She travels to his hometown of Kilbooly and discovers another fascinating story just waiting to be revealed. At a pub, she learns from the local ladies that there hasn't been a single marriage in the village in the past four years. When she suggests that the ladies cut the men off from all creature comforts, the women readily agree, and chaos immediately transforms the village. How long will the boycott last? And which side will be the winner?

Brian Hanrahan lives a carefree life in Kilbooly. As one of Ireland's richest men, he has never wanted for anything. He is stunned when his grandmother threatens to disinherit him if he does not settle down and produce a grandchild. The only candidate that remotely interests him is Tara Brid O'Connell. Her mettlesome suggestions have gotten the entire village into an uproar. Will he be the one to step forward and break the four-year, no marriage tradition?

Lisa Hendrix has done a superb job in her creation of "To Marry An Irish Rogue". I found myself being transported into the mystical fields of Ireland by her broad, descriptive language. Her delightful cast of characters will have readers begging for a sequel. She also adds just enough humor to keep her readers well-entertained.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is what a book should be like!, July 1, 2001

For me this was a perfect book, and I rarely say this. (-:

It was my first book by Lisa Hendrix, and I won't stop here.

The book was well balance, had a great sub characters and great environment. At times it was really funny, and had some great love scenes.

The hero and the heroine had a great relationship. They meet, there is a spark, they try to resist it, but not too much. They are reasonable, and you feel like it could have really happen. No murder mystery here, just two people falling in love.

The setting for this book, rural Ireland, is wonderful. Thedescriptions enable you to image the town, the people, thecountryside. Ms. Hendrix did a great job of portraying the warmth of the Irish people. The main charactes, Brian and Tara, are multifaceted. You feel the turmoil of Tara realizing that maybe Brian is not the greedy developer she wishes he was. Torn between writing the truth and misconceptions has Tara questioning her own emotional attraction to Brian. Brian as well must break down his misconceptions of all reports then Tara herself. Their romance is sensual, funny and warm. The townspeople are as captivating as Brian and Tara. My one peeve the proofreading (Brain instead of Brian). Overall, A GRAND BOOK. ENJOYABLE AND HEARTWARMING. END

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite Keeper Books!, December 27, 2002

This review is from: To Marry an Irish Rogue (Irish Eyes) (Paperback)
To Marry an Irish Rogue was my first Lisa Hendrix book and I loved it so much, she immediately became a must-buy author for me! The author creates such vivid, likable characters and weaves the main romance with the secondary romances so skillfully that I felt drawn into every aspect of the story. Even the secondary characters felt like fully dimensional people without ever overpowering the hero and heroine.

Very few books make my keeper shelf, and of those, I reread even fewer, but To Marry an Irish Rogue is one I not only keep close at hand, but revisit from time to time.

5.0 out of 5 stars SLAINTE (Gaelic for CHEERS), August 12, 2000
This review is from: To Marry an Irish Rogue (Irish Eyes) (Paperback)
What a cute story depicting life in a quaint Irish village! Makes me want all that much more, to travel to dear old Eire! Tara Brid O'Connell, a TV reporter, travels to the town of Kilbooly to do a story on the richest bachelor, Brian Hanrahan, who as an industrialist, has been remaking villages throughout the county, into prospering towns......and Tara is one who wants to see no fast-food restaurants in place of tiny town shops.... One night she overheard a group of women complaining that their men just wouldn't ask for their hands in marriage...it had been four years since the last wedding has taken place....with the help of Tara, they scheme a plot to open up the men's eyes and see how much they would benefit from marriage.........what to do? It's more a case of what NOT to do..........they stopped cleaning, cooking, and caring for their men.....to let them see how much they were really needed! (so began the Midnight Court).......... Tara started doing the story on this predicament, as well as trying to get interviews with Brian.............they each were totally attracted to one other, even while fighting this attraction.....The author did a great job building the relationship up, even while they were mistrustful of each other...of course, true love does win in the end, and I just loved the first love scene........phew...hot flash here! (hint: a van...........) The secondary characters were outstanding, especially Aileen and Tommy, who have been seeing each other for 13 years, and Brian's feisty and sometimes meddling grandmother, Ailis, who threatened to disinherit Brian if he didn't marry soon! This book is crying out for a sequel..........we fans can't be left in the dark as to the future stories of Aileen, Siobhan or Crissy and their men! The cover of this book, done is (of course!) emerald green, is what first caught my eye........since then, I've bought the other few "Irish Eyes" romances put out by Jove.........Of course the story itself is what compelled me to write this review......I so love books, that when I find one that stands out, I want to share it with everyone..........this books is a "keeper"............hope we all can convince the author to someday write that sequel...............

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful new author!, July 29, 2000

Warning - do not start reading this book unless you have *lots* of free time. I only ordered this book from Amazon because I enjoyed the other stories in the "Irish Eyes" series. Man, am I glad I did!

TO MARRY AN IRISH ROGUE is set in a small village in the west of Ireland. One evening, at the weekly ladies night in the local pub, the women of the village realize that it has been more than 4 years since the last wedding in town. Not for a lack of men, because there are plenty of bachelors around, but because none of them seem to be in the marrying mood. The women come to two conclusion about the situation that evening. One, the main reason that the men in town are reluctant to marry is that their hero, local business man and world class millionaire playboy, Brian Hanrahan is still single. Secondly, the bachelors in town have life too easy. Why should they marry if there are plenty of women around to cook, and clean and look after them.

The village women decide on a bold plan. They will "boycott" the men until they see the light and get married. In the pub that night is reporter Tara O'Connel. She is in the village to do an expose on "the Brian", but decides that the bachelor boycott is too good a story to pass up.

From then on out it is open season on the bachelor of Kilbooly. There is no more cooking, no more cleaning and no more cuddling. It is wonderful watching the owmne and men circle each other, the women trying to boycott the men they love and the men, completely confused about what is going on. At the same time, Brian finds himself attracted to Tara, even though she is a dreaded reporter.

From page one of the book you feel like you are in a village in Ireland. The language, the description and the characters provide a rich, almost plush texture to the story. Ms. Hendrix makes you really care about this town and these people, all of them, even the bachelors who are too clueless to figure out that they are being boycotted.

Buy this book, curl up with a cup of tea and settle in for the best story you will read in a long time.

4.0 out of 5 stars a funny and rewarding read, July 18, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: To Marry an Irish Rogue (Irish Eyes) (Paperback)
I loved Lisa Hendrix' book. Especially how realistic it portrayed County Clare. Yes, we do have mobile phones, laptop computers and are living in a modern society. We still enjoy a seisiun in the pub, a good gossip and a few pints but thank you, Lisa, for not having fairies and banshees popping up all over the place. The only wee quibble I have with the book is that the ending of the Brian/Tara conflict was a bit boring. I just wanted to get back to the village to find out what was happening. I'm looking foward to hearing more from Kilbooly in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top of the line for Irish Eyes, June 26, 2000
This review is from: To Marry an Irish Rogue (Irish Eyes) (Paperback)
After reading all of the books in this new line from Jove, I find the only one that comes close to capturing the essence of Ireland is Ms Hendrix's book. It is bold in its inception and cunning in its delivery. She has done a wonderful job of creating Irish syntax making one feel as if they are right there in County Clare. The story doesn't disappoint with a collection of stories within a story sure to leave the reader well satisfied. It is exciting to find a new voice who has joined the ranks of Joann Ross and Nora Roberts in giving us an Ireland to love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Memorable characters in classic romance, April 4, 2000

This review is from: To Marry an Irish Rogue (Irish Eyes) (Paperback)
In a quick getaway to the countryside of Ireland, Lisa Hendrix has penned a winner. Television reporter Tara and successful businessman Brian may sound like characters you've seen many times in romances, but be prepared to notice their depth and intelligence in this book. Their fresh conversations are much more enjoyable than those of most typical romances. Strong additional female characters also add to the story in a way not usually seen in this genre. This book provides a fulfilling respite from everyday hum-drum life. Enjoy!
