Book Description

Things are heating up. Chancellor Lucca believes Jess and Pavel are dead, and now she's deadly determined to make certain Mars never interferes with her or her world again. Meanwhile on Mars, Mei Lo pleads with the Raiders to finish their second mission: disabling the Terran satellites. But the satellites aren't all that threaten the red planet. Cavanaugh Kipling makes plans to contact Lucca's government--without permission. Now Jessamyn must thwart villains on two worlds before it's too late to prevent the destruction of Mars.

About the Author

Cidney Swanson is a full-time writer of Young Adult Sci-Fi and Fantasy including The Rippler Trilogy and The Saving Mars Series. SAVING MARS was named to Kirkus Reviews Best of 2012. When she’s not writing, Cidney is distracted by shiny things such as books with raised foil covers, macarons in jars, and stars set against an inky night sky. She lives in Eugene, Oregon with her husband, three kids, two cats, a dog, and entirely too much rain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant read! August 6, 2013

Well Cidney Swanson has done it again! Mars Burning is a fantastic read with twists, turns and characters that simply jump off the page.

Mars Burning is the 4th book in the series so far and throughout the course of the story so far we have seen the characters develop and grow; both as individuals and within their relationships together. I found this book a riveting read and I found I just couldn't put it down once I'd started! Personally this has been my favourite book of the series and found the plot engaging and well thought out with something happening every step of the way. I would say more but I don't want to spoil the surprise!

I am highly anticipating book 5 now, and I can't wait to see what happens to Jess, Ethan and Pavel. And of course, to see the fate of the small red planet, Mars.

I would highly recommend this book to all fans of sci-fi fiction within the young adult genre :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this series September 16, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I started with this series when the first one was free. I hardly ever pay for Kindle books but I have bought three of this series and can hardly wait for the next one. It reminds me of the best of early Heinlein, which given my age is about the highest compliment I can give. I love the characters, I love the society, I love the writing. More please, and soon!

Mars Burning is the fourth book of the excellent SAVING MARS series by Cidney Swanson that I've really been looking forward to read!

Jessamyn, our heroine from Mars, is on the run from Chancellor Lucca while at the same time trying to get her team to disable the Terran satellites around Mars before they can be used against the Marisians (and avoid political ramifications on Mars). She is a great pilot who does her best to help the people she cares about (her friends and all of Mars) and bounces between courage and self-doubt and heroism in a way that makes her a good roll model.

Chancellor Lucca is the main villain and she puts Cruella DeVille (from 101 Dalmations) to shame! I completely see Glenn Close playing this part when these get adapted to a movie or TV series! The Chancellor is also Pavel's (Jessamyn's boyfriend) aunt, but there's more to that story to come in the future.

If you haven't read the other three books, you really need to start there, it's pretty hard to catch up and let's face it, you're going to want to go back and read the first three anyways, so just start there! Saving Mars (Saving Mars Series-1)

Great books for teens and adults! It's kind of a coming of age / saving the world (Mars) / sci-fi series.

5.0 out of 5 stars these books keep ending too quick! October 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Ms Swanson, I feel like you are toying with me, each book, I expect the end of the story, but NO, another and another comes out. Get the next one out soon please, and at some point let the story end, so I can move on!!! Great books, enjoyed each one as much as the others.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Rousingly Good Story August 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This 4th book in the Saving Mars series does not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the continuing adventures of Jess and Pavel as they work to save Mars and stay out of reach of the dastardly Chancellor who is intent on their destruction. Recommended for teens and those who enjoy science fiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Am In Love With Mars August 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Give me a minute to breath.

Okay... no, wait, another minute. Look at that gorgeous cover while you wait. Look at that beauty!

Just - just one more, please.

Whew. This masterpiece really knocks the breath out of you.

Jess is running for her life, breaking rules, kicking butt and being her general all-out Mars patriot hero self - all while falling completely, totally in love with a boy from a world she never wanted anything to do with.

Nothing new there. But man, this story never gets old. She is awesome. Pavel is amazing. The Wallaces are hilarious. Lucca is just cold-blooded, terrifying evil in bodily form. Vladim Wu and Gaspar Bonaparte are freaky psycho minions who drive me nuts and make me cry. But - dare I say this - Cavanaugh, at least in the level of hatred he drew from me, leaves them all way behind. The evil, evil, evil traitor... I just have no words for how horrifyingly low the bad guys in this book fell.

The good guys, though - well, they're mostly the same people we've come to adore. Jess is struggling with whether her rule-breaking streak is really ever a good idea; Kipper is coming to learn that not everything is black and white - while recovering from a whole awful lot; and Pavel is fighting to keep his love alive and well without compromising everything she lives for. Meanwhile, Brian is just as feisty and Harpreet just as wise and gentle as ever, if a little less present in this book. (Ironic, considering the group's all together on the run for most of it...)

The plot of this book is a little hard to explain. Most books have a main plot with a ton of other events that move things along but don't fit in a simple summary.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! August 5, 2013

I love Ms Swanson! I think that this is an AMAZING series!

Mars Burning has a fast moving plot, and lovable characters! I love that the characters are written honestly, but not irratatingly! They do have flaws, but they realize their short-comings (or possibly strengths) and they work to address it! Do yourself a favor and read this book, or better yet the entire series
