5.0 out of 5 stars Wish I'd bought one sooner!
This is a tool no dog owner should be without. I've known about it for years, but resisted buying one for fear of using anything with a blade or blade-like cutting edge. But there's nothing to fear in this tool -- the cutting edges are well out of reach of adult fingers and never come in contact with the dog's skin. 3.0 out of 5 stars indifferent about this product
I bought this stripper for my Lakeland Terrier. I was tired of dealing with hair all over the place and I thought this would help reveal his wiry coat (as I have had him clipped and that makes him softer).
The stripper doesn't hold much hair and I found myself emptying it after two passes (and my dog isn't big). Not great if you have a fussy dog! Even after...

This is a tool no dog owner should be without. I've known about it for years, but resisted buying one for fear of using anything with a blade or blade-like cutting edge. But there's nothing to fear in this tool -- the cutting edges are well out of reach of adult fingers and never come in contact with the dog's skin. What they DO do is cut (gently) through matted, tangled hair and (again, gently) loosen it, freeing it from the healthy, growing hair. The result is a dog who looks clean and feels wonderful, whose coat isn't thinner or shorter, but just healthier looking. We joke about "making another dog" from all the dead hair we're able to free up from our long-haired spaniel's coat; that's how dramatic the change is. We also use it on a more thinly-coated spaniel, and while we get less hair, she still looks lovely and clean. Neither dog sheds much, but I have to say that when I use the Coat King regularly, we see little to no shedding in the house.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mars Coat King - the greatest, May 12, 2007
This review is from: Mars Stainless Steel 16-Blade Coat King Pet Stripper with Wooden Handle, Fine (Misc.)
I can't believe I'm taking the time to do this, but this coat stripper is wonderful. Your dog will be more comfortable and your house will be cleaner. I wish I'd had this 20 years ago when I had a Samoyed who could cover the house in hair in a few hours, but it works great on my Airedale as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great alternative to the stripping comb, October 19, 2007

If you have any health issues with your hands, you will find this a wonderful tool to help remove the soft undercoat of the jacket, reducing shedding and helping to maintain the coarse top coat. I love my Coat King and use it on both of my Scottish Terriers. This product is a gtreat alternative to using a stripping comb (probably would not be used by a handler or someone showing their dog as they would be a purest and use the stripping comb) and your pet dog will tolerate it easily. Be sure you purchase the one recommended for your breed as they come in various blade counts.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's the best!, April 3, 2009
This review is from: Mars Stainless Steel 16-Blade Coat King Pet Stripper with Wooden Handle, Fine (Misc.)
I've used just about everything. I have a Cairn Terrier who's coat was a mess due to incorrect grooming for the breed. The Mars stripper is easy, quick and amazing.

The Mars Stripper was very effective in removing a terriers winter coat. The dog didn't object either.

I was really amazed at how well this thing works. My yorkie is so sensitive and HATES being brushed. Obviously this is a big problem! But after going over his coat with the Evolution rake to get out any bigger tangles he let me brush him with this thing long enough to get another dog's worth of old dead hair off him! He looks much nicer now too. This thing is really well made, and even has replacable blades. They are not all interchangable though so if you're thinking about using multiple blades look it up first. From what I have read, the #10 size is kind of the standard. I would recommend that if your dog has long hair. Otherwise, the higher the number generally the closer together the teeth are (except the size 16 and 20 are both 1mm apart just the size 16 is slightly smaller). For me, the size 16 works very well on my yorkie and pulls out tons and tons of old dead hair. I wish I would have bought this thing a long time ago! Nothing I have ever used has worked this well, I used to think the Furminator was supposed to work well but it can't even hold a candle to this thing!

The stripper doesn't hold much hair and I found myself emptying it after two passes (and my dog isn't big). Not great if you have a fussy dog! Even after repeated use over two months I don't see any difference in his coat. I didn't want to get him stripped due to time, money and the comfort of the dog...but that seems to be the only way to get that wire again. I was better off with just brushing him or seeing what the Furminator can do.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not effective, May 3, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mars Stainless Steel 16-Blade Coat King Pet Stripper with Wooden Handle, Fine (Misc.)
I purchased this blade based on the rave reviews for it on Amazon. Our border terrier sheds a lot and needs frequent grooming. We currently use a combination of the Furminator (for the undercoat) and a straight stripping blade. These work well but are time-intensive. I was looking forward to using this product to simplify our grooming needs. The product does not strip as effectively as a straight stripping blade and it is inferior to the Furminator in removing old undercoat. I believe that I have the proper blade for our dog's ooat based on the breed/blade finder that I found online for this product. The vendor is also difficult to reach. I tried to return the product but found no instructions on the invoice or website to do so. When I called the phone number listed on the invoice, it directed me to a corporate phone tree with no customer service option. I would not buy this product again and would not recommend the vendor. This is an expensive grooming product that merits greater customer support and a return policy.

I use this to strip the under coat from my Norwich Terrier and it also shortens the lenght of his hair.
