Book Description

Marshal Law (Graphic Novels) April 1, 2003
From the legendary creative team of Pat Mills (Judge Dredd, Slaine, A.B.C. Warriors) and Kevin O'Neill (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) comes a new kind of hero...It is the none-too-distant future. San Francisco has been destroyed by a massive earthquake, and rebuilt as San Futuro. The Government has publicly endorsed genetics programs designed to create a new race of superheroes. A war against South America has left many of those "heroes" dead...but not enough. Now, men and women with super-powers run rampant. The public's greatest icons hide dark secrets. A killer yet more vicious and evil than any before is slaughtering young women, pursuing a crazed agenda. One man stands between the city and the Abyss. His name is Marshal Law, and he is a hero hunter. But he hasn't found any heroes yet...

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Brutal Satire, November 10, 1998
By A Customer
Pat Mills is one of the most vicious satirists in any medium anywhere in the world, and Marshal Law has to be his finest work. On the surface, it's a mere parody of superhero comics, but Mills digs beneath the surface to show the true horrors of politics and religion. Kevin O'Neill's art is the perfect compliment. I won't give away the plot -- just believe me when I tell you that anyone who's ever read a Superman comic or wants to know the truth about our culture and society should check out Marshal Law.

5.0 out of 5 stars the final word in superhero satire, June 1, 2010
This review is from: Marshal Law: Fear and Loathing (Marshal Law (Graphic Novels)) (Paperback)
The deconstruction of the superhero is a prevalent theme in many modern comic-books today. Marshal Law is yet another version of a superhero universe that mirrors characters from DC, Marvel, and superheroes in general (other comics in this category: Watchmen, The Boys, Bratpack, Invincible, Astro City, etc.), in order to shed new light, or destroy common notions about superheros.

Anyways, whatever those books accomplish with their ingenious satire, Marshal Law does 1000x harsher, sicker, and brutal-er. It's like they chopped up the DCU and Marvel universe, threw them in a garbage can, let it sit there until the apocalypse, and then poured them out onto paper. That would be what this comic is. This is the ugly ugly truth beneath our superheroes.

It's glorious.
