5.0 out of 5 stars A tribute to a Chicago institution
This cookbook is so much more than a book of recipes. It has so much history and photos of the State Street Marshall Field's Store. An institution that had stood for many years before being bought out by Macys. The pictures are fabulous and the recipes are ones that can be used in anyone's kitchen. A wonderful memory of another time and place. Well done, Marshall...

3.0 out of 5 stars I love the restaurants, not as inspired as I hoped by the cookbook.
I am from Minneapolis and as far as I am concerned this is a Dayton's cookbook. (Dayton's started Target and bought Marshall Field's, regional stubborness.)

This is part history book and part cookbook. I enjoyed it, but I was not as inspired to make the goods as I thought I would be when I asked for it as a gift. The recipes are classics and some are above my...

5.0 out of 5 stars Marshall Field's Cookbook!!, March 8, 2007
This review is from: The Marshall Field's Cookbook: Classic Recipes and Fresh Takes from the Field's Culinary Council (Hardcover)
Marshall Field's Walnut Room is remebered as THE place to have a "grown up" little girl birthday party. And, as I grew older, it became a favorite restaurant to have luncheon on shopping days in Chicago. However, I never thought they would relinquish the recipes for their wonderous dishes, but her they are and more. Marshall Field's Cookbook, besides having recipes for all the favorites, is beautifully llustrated, and has interesting narratives that make this book "a good read" too.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE MOST MEMORABLE BOOKS!!!! MUST HAVE FOR ANY COLLECTION!!, February 11, 2008
This review is from: The Marshall Field's Cookbook: Classic Recipes and Fresh Takes from the Field's Culinary Council (Hardcover)
This is one of the best cookbooks that I have in my massive collection. There is not a better way than to remember this iconic store by this cookbook. Each beautiful page has both delicious recipes and the rich history that MARSHALL FIELDS will always be remembered for. I have so many of these cookbooks to give away in the future or to keep for myself. THEY ARE JUST SUCH GREAT KEEPSAKES. From the classic recipes to FRANGOS, and then to the newly formed MARSHALL FIELDS CULINARY COUNCIL's recipes this cookbook will not disappoint. One of the best buys for anyone whether you are a die hard FIELD'S fan or are new to the drama of current times, this is one cookbook that nobody should pass by for any cook or cookbook collector. I MISS YOU MARSHALL FIELDS!!

This is a fabulous cookbook for anyone who enjoys really good food! For me the food is associated with decades of memories: going to the Walnut Room every Christmas season for lunch with my mother, later taking my children there, and still later, taking my grandchildren there. It was always a happy experience filled with mouth-watering aromas and perfectly plated and delicious foods. My favorite was the Field's Special Sandwich, and I remember it looking even prettier, with black olives and quartered eggs on the plate. I have been trying to come up with the recipe for years and could not produce the thousand island dressing. Now I can. The only recipe I noticed missing from the book was my favorite dessert - Charlotte Russe. I'd still kill for that recipe. :) Anyway, all the food was excellent, so give it a try, folks! And it's so nice that Macy's is trying to carry on some of the traditions of Marshall Field's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Cookbook!!!!!, September 16, 2011

As a big fan of Marshal Field's & Company, I was so thrilled to find this cookbook. These are actual recipes compiled by the culinary staff of MF&Co. The days of shopping in grand, high-end department stores with multiple, splendorous tea rooms and restaurants on each floor are long gone. At least we can revisit those memories by recreating the tastes and smells of their fine cuisine, never to be forgotten. By today's healthy eating standards, these recipes may seem a bit outdated. The important thing to remember is, you can eat anything you want, as long as it is in moderation. Enjoy! I know I will. Never forget MF&Co.

A friend of mine had this book and it had so many great recipes. She had worked at Marshall Field's when she purchased it and didn't know whether it was still available. I was so excited when I found it on line. The purchase went perfectly and I couldn't have been happier.

This is part history book and part cookbook. I enjoyed it, but I was not as inspired to make the goods as I thought I would be when I asked for it as a gift. The recipes are classics and some are above my level of talent, but at the same time they were not as mysterious as I thought they would be.

I guess it taught me this lesson: If you can still by the item at the restaurant across town, then why try to make it at home!

I will have the cookbook in case the restaurants/delis close here!
