Jacob Almond says:
"Before he became an overrated filmmaker, Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire) was a reporter for Rolling Stone who was so youthful looking that he could go undercover for a year at a California high school and write a book about it."--Marshall Fine

Overrated? By who's standards? Maybe Jerry Maguire is overrated as a film, but Crowe is by no means overrated as a director. Say Anything, Almost Famous, and Singles were all great films that had slow openings, but later generated a strong following. Almost Famous is probably the only one widely known from the get go, but I still find people just discovering that masterpiece. He is a great director who makes personal films. His work has inspired my own writing and directing. I have no problem with him having the opinion, but felt maybe it was not very well founded. Using "overrated" in reviews is very overused.
