Review

"Marshall the Miracle Dog" is a wonderful story that can be read to the entire family. It is a tale of Marshall, a lovable little dog, which overcomes the cruelty of the world to find a nice home. Raised in a terrible situation, he is rescued by the Humane Society, and that changes his life forever.
...here is a wonderful book for you. We are proud to award Marshall the Miracle Dog" with the Dove "Family- Approved" Seal for all ages.

--Donna Rolfe, Editor, The Dove Foundation

From NY Journal of Books: Okay. Not a dog lover. After having three children in quick succession, I was not interested in having one more thing in my life that I loved that could even remotely possibly get sick and die on me, thus killing me instantly. And yet, I have three dogs, one for each of them. It's the children s fault. So even if you are not an obsessive animal lover, here comes your warning: Take out the box of tissues. This one s a weeper. But also have handy some big balloons, a hooter, and cake in the shape of a bone because Marshall the Miracle Dog is a story celebrating a boundless hope, the kind of hope reflected only in the exuberance of small children and . . . well . . . dogs. . . . Speaking to the frailties and fears experienced by every child who has ever felt different or damaged, alone or neglected or worse Marshall the Miracle Dog is a story to be savored and read over and over again. The illustrations by Lauren Heimbaugh are soft detailed pencils so beautifully drawn they look photorealistic but for the apparent texture in the surfaces of color. The artist so captures the emotions of this dog as he evolves [SPOILER ALERT!] from a broken mess to a joyous family member that you could swear you ve met Marshall somewhere before. And you have. When love walked in the room. --Lisa Rojany Buccieri, New York Journal of Books

From Special School District of St. Louis County Missouri: When I read Marshall's story I felt the warmth of his voice and the love in his heart. I knew immediately it would completely capture the heart of children everywhere. I also knew the healing potential it holds for the children I serve. It is a story of hope, survival and true love. I believe that Marshall's miracle is yet to unfold. This story will rescue children who blame themselves for being bullied. It will be a salve for children who worry about acceptance and healing for children coping with physical or mental illnesses. Share this story with children and watch the miracles happen! Thank you, Marshall, for telling us your story. --Charlotte Nations, Special School District of St. Louis County

Marshall the Miracle Dog is an inspiring book for people of all ages. This is the type of book that will touch the heart of anyone who reads it. It has a special message about "discovery to recovery," resilience and most of all our ability to rise above circumstances beyond our control. It is a wonderful story for children. I am going to buy several more books for the children in my life - they will take away such positive and important messages after they read it. Kudos to the author for bringing us her story!!

This is such a great, inspiring story. Marshall really is a miracle dog. His story is brought to life by the unbelievably illustrated images. I suggest this book to anyone with kids, or to just anyone of any age. You won't be disappointed. I usually don't take the time to review products on amazon, but I made an exception for this book.

The very first thing I noticed about Marshall the Miracle Dog is the absolutely breathtaking illustrations! They are so realistic, I felt like I could reach out and ruffle the fur on Marshall's back! The illustrator handled Marshall's early wounds exceptionally well - communicating the dog's pain and physical maladies in a tasteful yet effective way. Every new page is a work of art from both the author and illustrator who brought it all to life, and if the rest of the world is anything like my kids and I, they won't want the book to end. If the story seems a little depressing at first, stick it out to the end - I promise you won't regret it. The text carries a beautiful message, and the pictures enhance that message by making it accessible to old and young alike.

Beautifully done. I hope this brings real interest to the humane society, and shows everyone what great animals are available for adoption (each with their own story - and some not so different than Marshall's).

I was amazed to see how true to life this story of Marshall was. Having met both Cyndi and Marshall, and seeing first hand what he went through prior to his rescue, made the book even more moving. This is a story about a survior and how he ovecame the abuse and lack of humane treatment. Cyndi has the unique ability to put into words what Marshall must have felt all those days prior to his rescue and how life has now changed for him now that he as a Forever Home. I was moved to tears more than once during the reading and feel that this is a book everyone should read even if they do not have children. Marshall is an inspiration to all who meet him in person and who will be reading about him in this book.

What an inspiring book about love, acceptance, kindess and forgiveness. I believe every school in our nation should add this book to their libraries. Oh, and BTW, I just saw a photo of children in Taiwan with this book! Onward and upward with the Marshall Movement!!!

This book tells the uplifting tale of Marshall. Marshall was found in the home of a dog hoarder with over 60 dogs. He was severely injured, probably due to fights with the other dogs over food.

After being rescued by the Missouri Humane Society, Marshall was rushed to the vet where he underwent major surgery. While being operated on, Marshall lost his heartbeat twice, but came back fighting each time. Upon completing months of extensive therapy, Marshall was ready to be adopted. But, would Marshall's emotional wounds be healed? Would he ever trust humans again?

I actually had the extreme pleasure of meeting Marshall and his owner, Cynthia Willenbrock. He truly is a miracle dog with a fascinating story. Plus, Lauren Heimbaugh brings the story to life with her gorgeous illustrations. A must read for any dog lover!
