From School Library Journal
Grade 6-9 Identical twins Susan and Chris, high-school seniors, hatch a plot to find out what the boys really think about the girls. Chris fakes an illness and then goes to school as her mythical cousin Charlie from Chicago. By the end of the story, the twins and their two friends have been matched with perfect dates, ``Charlie'' returns to Chicago with no one the wiser, and the twins have discovered most of the intricacies of communicating with the opposite sex. There are obvious problems with the plot. The chance of Charlie not being recognized as Chris is minimal. The characters are shallow and the incidents are strained. The school nerd suddenly revealing himself to ``Charlie'' as being wonderful, caring, and interesting because he appreciates his mother's hard work and collects and cares for animals seems highly unlikely. Fans of the two previous stories about the twins, The Pumpkin Principle (1986) and The Hot Fudge Sunday Affair (1985; both Fawcett), may enjoy this. Otherwise, skip it.
