The Marpac sound conditioners are, without question, the best. I've used various devices to achieve white noise. I can say with considerable experience that the Marpac ones are more durable and worth every penny. This version (the TSCi) has the distinct advantage of having a built-in voltage coverter which permits it to be used outside the US with only a plug adapter (the European adapter is included). Some years ago, my husband "fried" a previous white noise machine by plugging it in without the voltage adapter and I realized that it's a very handy feature. Likewise, the Marpac products last a lot longer than those made by other companies. We've had several from Sharper Image whose connections have broken out in no time. My husband has a mechanical machine which is >20 yrs. old; I've one which is >15 yrs. old. This smaller, electronic version, is perfect for travel (or home). We just returned from a week-long trip to Europe and it worked fabulously. My husband frequently travels to Africa where power outages are common and hotels are very noisy. He's looking forward to using it with the optional battery pack on his next trip.

I travel a lot. One of the most significant trips I take is an annual visit to Tokyo for 2 months a year. The reviews written about the place I would be staying in Tokyo complained of thin walls. During a previous trip to Tokyo, construction workers were using a jackhammer at 2am in the morning just half a block from where I was sleeping. After years of consideration, I finally bought this sound machine. I was concerned that it would be big and not worth the weight to bring to Japan. I also couldn't tell if it came with a power supply or if I had to buy that separate. When the item finally arrives, I found it quite lightweight and not as big as I had expected. I would compare it to the size of a medium-sized wallet, but much less weight. There is no question that this noise machine was worth the money and worth its weight. I am a light sleeper and this machine blocks out a lot of odd noises that would otherwise keep me awake. I like the volume and sound options. The first noise option is a cross between a traditional noise machine by the same manufacturer and the sound of an ocean. The other noise option is a cross between a traditional noise machine and a waterfall. I prefer the ocean noise. The high volume setting is quite loud, and the low volume setting is quiet. A push-lever dial lets you choose any volume between these two extremes. Another lever allows you to add the sound of rain over the top of either the ocean or the waterfall. I haven't personally found this rain option necessary. The machine does come with a power cord that is not bulky. During the first two weeks of my trip to Tokyo, I had a roommate. I moved out to switch locations for a new job and took my noise machine with me.Read more ›

I bought this for travel in Europe to use in place of my Marpac home unit. It is compact and works well on European current (with a small plug adapter). Drowned out street noises very well.

My husband really needs his white noise to sleep, and right now he uses an air filter fan that suffices. But now, he loves his Marsona. He's very sensitive to "patterns" in his white noise, and with the Marsona he was able to manually create the white noise by adjusting its dials. He travels a lot, and never can find good white noise, now it won't be a problem.

Since I developed tinnitus several years ago, I have needed some sort of background "white noise" to sleep. I travel a lot and have gone through several electronic models, all of which had various drawbacks. At the same time as I bought a Marpac SleepMate 980A Electro-Mechanical Sound Conditioner, I bought this TSCi-330 by the same company. I chose the International version because when I traveled in the past, the sound conditioner I had been using required US voltage and was responsible, indirectly, for blowing the circuit breakers at a hotel in Oslo! That conditioner (not sold by Amazon) had numerous other flaws, so I was eager to replace it.

The Marsona TSCi-330 is rather simple in operation - just a three-way power switch and two slide controls, but it provides the most natural and soothing sound this side of the "electric fan in a box" 980A. No beats, patterns or loops - just a steady noise. The switch selects between a constant noise (think rainfall) and one that goes up and down in volume (think surf). One slide control is for volume and the other allows you to mix the high and low tones of the sound to your preference. The large speaker provides a sound with lower overtones and doesn't sound tinny the way other electronic models I have used do.

I was able to adjust the controls to my liking and they don't tend to move afterward. The international voltage adapter was a nice plus so I no longer need a transformer. It's wonderful and goes with me everywhere.

In the 10 years that I've been on-line, I think this is the first time I've written a review on Amazon. My family and I love this product so much that I just *had* to write something. Four out of five of us are addicted to sleeping with white noise machines. In the past, while traveling abroad, we have had poor results with our standard noise machines; they'd often blow up after being plugged into the wall, even while using an adaptor, so we'd have to use the hotel bathroom fan to create some kind of noise to sleep by! This summer, I decided to investigate into a noise machine that actually works in Europe -- which is where we were going on vacation. I found the Marsona brand, read the reviews, and decided to take a leap of faith. It was either that, or not sleep for 2 weeks of our vacation!

Bought 2 machines (one for each hotel room) and then read, in the pamphlet, that the reason regular noise machines don't work in Europe -- even with adaptors -- is that the adaptors are meant for appliances (like blowdryers) that aren't utilized for very long amounts of time. Those appliances are only used for 5 or 10 minutes, and the adaptors can "sense" that and can handle that. However, noise machines are used for a good 8 hours through the night! Adaptors can't handle that! While the Marsona model also has an adaptor attached to it, you shouldn't worry! The difference is that the Marsona model is built differently and can "sense" that it is being used for a long period of time. Simply....it can handle it!

These machines have 2 kinds of noise for your listening pleasure, and the actual range of volume that they produce is fantastic! My kids like them better than our regular noise machines! We used them in Iceland, Amsterdam, Saltzburg, and Munich. I am so thankful that we got 2 weeks of wonderful, worry-free sleep on our vacation. In very large part, it was due to these machines!
