When I learned there was a new "Marsupial Sue" book out I knew I had to get it for my daughter's fourth birthday. The original "Marsupial Sue" is now tattered and taped from many fun-filled readings. After perusing the reviews I was hesitant to order the book because the critics thought it might be confusing for small children. Not so! My kids (2.5 and 4) are asking to read it over and over. They are not confused at all about the characters' costumes and they picked up on the rhyme immediately. We're now laughing about the costumes the animals put together and singing "No No No No No" joyously! Thanks Mr. Lithgow for more great memories.

My five year old daughter and I read this book three times together this morning. Then, we listened to the CD five times together, then she listened to it three times more!!!! This is a wonderfully entertaining and funny story. My little girl has been running around singing the song all morning!
Thanks John Lithgow, for using your talent to entertain families!

John Lithgow's books for children are fun, entertaining reads! Books that can not only be enjoyed by children, but adults as well, and that's saying a lot.In "Marsupial Sue Presents the Runaway Pancake", the accompanying CD contains a live performance by John Lithgow, narrating [not word for word, but he adds a lot of humor to the story] and performing the song of the runaway pancake. This is such a wonderful book and CD combo that had my 3.5 year-old daughter laughing with glee and tapping her feet as she sang along to the CD.

I have read most of Lithgow's books for children and reviewed them, and I find they are excellent tools for promoting early literacy skills - the rhyming text and accompanying CD together with the humorous illustrations provide ample opportunity for sing-alongs, read-aloud, and active discussion of the themes in the books. Highly recommended!

This is just a terrific children's book and John Lithgow does an amazing rendition of it on the included CD. My children (almost 3 and almost 5) just love it. They laugh and sing along and have the most fun with this book.
If you liked Marsupial Sue you will love this one too.

To put it simply...this is the story of the Gingerbread man, but changed into a pancake and sung to a great tune by John Lithgowe. My kids love it (and I even sing along with it too).

The illustrations in the book might be a mite confusing, since the animals are putting on a play. Meaning you have animals dressing up as other animals. But my kids could care less! They just love the song and read/sing along with the book just fine.

And FYI...the details of this story (a pancake instead of a gingerbread man & the fox is hard of hearing instead of crossing a river) is actually closer to old Russian Folktale. So teach your kids some geography and tell them how different regions can have their different takes on similar stories. :)

I was thrilled when I received my package of books w/cds. The package was intact and the items were in perfect condition. I couldn't wait to share my newly purchased items with my students (and my family).
I am so happy with my decision to purchase these items through Amazon.

My daughter's preschool teacher had been playing this CD for the students. My daughter loves it! To help ease the separation from her preschool class, I bought this for her. We listen to it in the car and both my five-year-old son and three-year-old daughter love to sing along with it. John Lithgow does an amazing job narrating the story. His music is engaging and the expression in his voice is remarkable. It's a very cute remake of The Gingerbread Man. Excellent illustrations, excellent mix of vocabulary, excellent recording... We love it here!

I took this out from my local library for my 4 yr old and have had to renew it several times because he doesn't want to let it go. The first night he heard it twice and the next day he took it to PreK to share with his class. They borrowed it for 2 days to use it with other classes! John Lithgow's funny catchy rhymes and the twist at the end make it instantly loveable!

My kids are 3 1/2 and 2 1/2 and they love this story. The book is a little long, so they usually don't make it until the end of the book...but I think they will grow into it. They absolutely love listening to the CD...over and over. I would definitely recommend adding this to your child's book collection. The illustrations are awesome too! John Lithgow is an amazing story teller.
