i'm compelled to write my first review in my more-than-a-decade on amazon. this blanket (in its current version) is truly awful.

i've loved the vellux brand my whole life. i had my last (good) vellux blanket since the 90s and only got rid of it as a result of an unfortunate dog-and-skunk incident.

I love this "Martex Vellux Blanket". It has the look and feel of luxary at a reasonable price. It adds a nice extra layer of warmth that could be used with a comforter in the winter or by itself in warmer weather. It washes up beautifully. I washed it in cold water before I used it and it did not fade or shrink and was even softer then when it came out of the package.Be sure to check your lint trap after drying though,I had quite a build up of fuzz after the first washing.

The cranberry is a beautiful shade. It is even deeper than the picture here depicts and adds quite a festive look for the holidays. I am mixing and matching it with the whimsical flannel "Snowman Plaid Print" sheets and comforter and it made an easy and inexpensive seasonal decor.

This full/queen size is ample enough for a queen size, and may even be a little big for a full.It came with laundering and storage instructions and was packed in a plastic zip case. The instructions had the "WestPoint Stevens Inc" name on it, so you can be pretty assured of a quality item.

Nice for a new look, for comfortable cozy warmth for your bed, for holiday visitors, or just to wrap up in in front of the fireplace or TV.And at this price you could get a different color for every season.

Happy Holidays and Happy Shopping.....Laurie

5.0 out of 5 stars VELVET SOFT - SUNSHINE WARM, January 1, 2004
While Martex calls this blanket "Vellex" I found it closer to velour - it's extremely soft and light in weight yet provides maximum warmth.

A plus for the appearance of this blanket is that it's equally at home in the bedroom or den. There's a wide variety of colors so you can easily find one to fit your personal color scheme.

We keep ours folded on the sofa for quick naps or extra warmth when reading or watching television.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality!, February 1, 2004
We purchased this blanket to go underneath our comforter for that extra comfort during the colder weather. It does just that! The blanket is very soft and comfortable. It washes up just like new as well. I think it is great for traveling as well. You never know when you will need an extra blanket. Another great feature is that this blanket comes in a wide variety of colors, so everyone can find just what they are looking for. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Blanket for the price, February 19, 2004

I dont prefer comforters, sheets or blankets on top of me while I sleep(Too heavy). But still I want the warmth of a blanket.

Vellux provides just the same warmth while remaining remarkably light.

I got this from Sams Club a year back after seeing it on lots of Hotels. Paid less than twenty bucks for this. Washed it straight out of the box like the manufacturer had suggested. Used it year-round and have no complaints till now. Believe the editor. This is a good buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great blanket!, June 10, 2004
Wonderfully soft, no pilling, available in great colors!! Ever try to fall asleep with too few/too many covers? You need this blanket! Wonderfully light, use it by itself, or on top of the coverlet for those spring nights, or as a second blanket during the winter! You can't go wrong!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
i'm compelled to write my first review in my more-than-a-decade on amazon. this blanket (in its current version) is truly awful.

i've loved the vellux brand my whole life. i had my last (good) vellux blanket since the 90s and only got rid of it as a result of an unfortunate dog-and-skunk incident.

the martex label (currently owned by 'westpoint home') is now made in china (despite westpoint's claims and according to the tag on the blanket itself). it's significantly thinner than its older, american counterpart. that spongy foam feeling that the old blankets had? gone.

worse yet is the smell. the new blankets reek of formaldehyde. the smell does *not* wash out -- which is curious because the *entire rest of the blanket* did.

a single laundering was enough to destroy the new martex vellux blanket. what happens is that the nylon flocking comes completely undone from the paper-thin foam core in little, smelly fabric pills that get all over the washer. the remainder of the blanket pills up and falls off in the (no heat!) dry cycle. all that was left of my first westpoint martex vellux blanket (moss green, if it matters) was the flimsy grid and a few bits of formaldehyde-smelling nylon.

because i have so greatly loved this product in the past, and because this particular blanket was so easily and weirdly destroyed, i re-ordered it -- a replacement for my replacement. i counted on this whole situation as having been just an awful fluke.

nope. westpoint martex vellux blanket #2 fared no better. in fact, westpoint martex vellux blanket #2 broke my dryer.

maybe i'm a chump -- surely, i am, but it's only because i am so very loyal to the blanket of my youth (and twenties). i'd even be willing to try a vellux blanket again someday, so long as it's not westpoint's mertex vellux (manufactured in china).

a complete disappointment.

1.0 out of 5 stars Soft & warm, but doesn't hold up, October 29, 2007

I really wish I could give this blanket a great rating, but unfortunately the fabric doesn't hold together. First noticed when blanket was a month old, one spot where the outer material has disappeared. In the spot you can see an inner weave material, but the outer material is gone. During the next several months, more of these places have appeared. I can't directly put a cause on the problem- seems to wash & dry well, no excessive lent. The blanket is used gently. I don't know! I wish I had returned it when the problem was first noticed, but time passes fast. For this problem I have to rate it at 1 star. If it didn't have this problem with holes- I would give it a 5 star. The blanket is lightweight, very soft, and keeps you warm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vellux Blankets Are SO Warm and Luxurious!, November 16, 2005
I've had my navy blue Vellux blanket for our Queen size bed for several years now. It's amazing at how this blanket holds warmth! In fact, we use it as a bedspread. Sometimes, it gets a bit *too* hot!

It feels velvety and sensual and looks that way, too. We've washed it lots of times and it's never faded...not once. It's quite a bulky blanket, though, so you'll likely have to wash it all by itself. It's not heavy, it's just, well, *substational*.

We loved it so much, we bought our son a twin sized one for his bed!

If you're looking for an attractive blanket that's warm and soft, Vellux is a wonderful choice for your bedding needs. It's well worth the price!

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money!!! VERY poor quality!, June 30, 2005
I've never written an Amazon review before, but the extremly poor quality of these blankets-I had ordered 4 unfortunately-compelled me to warn future consumers. Only the top and bottom edges were finished, they were very thin and the color was faded and VERY discolored where the blanket had been folded in the packaging so there are faded discolored lines throughout the blanket when you open it-and no amount of washing will change that-so they are useless and it will cost too much to ship these bulky items back so I'm stuck with them-it was like purchasing irregular 3rd or 4th quality factory rejects-

5.0 out of 5 stars wow do I love this warm blanket!, October 15, 2004
The blanket is light-weight, yet they are surprisingly dense. I have purchased velour type blankets before, and found them wanting as far as warmth, and did not last long. The weave is much denser, and it makes them so good at keeping you warm, but not overheated. You feel like Goldielocks...just right.

These are twice the quality you will find in stores and surprisingly less than I paid for the last ones. The material is strong, showing they will wear well. I don't think you can beat the price for there. I sit at the computer and write for hours, and they are perfect for a throw on a sofa. I bought two and loved them so much, I am ordering more. Very highly recommended. Shipping was quick, too! Worth every penny.
