Great collection, June 30, 2010
This review is from: Martha Reeves and the Vandellas 24 Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
While The Supremes were Motown's main girl group of the sixties, Martha and the Vandellas managed to run (with The Marvellettes) a close second. While Diana ross sang about love, heartache and rejection, Martha's gritty delivery told you she'd already been there and experienced it all. Martha didn't "Hear A symphony"; for her love was a "Heat Wave". "Quicksand" or a "Live Wire". All three of these gems are present here, as well as "Come and Get These Memories", :Dancing in the Street" and "Nowhere to Run" plus some of their last recordings and one of my favorites "You've Been in Love Too Long" with it's bluesy piano trills. This is a really great collection and if you are or were a Motown fan, you need to own it. Everything about the early Motown sound was distinctive and this Cd shows you just how infectious the Motown sound was and still is.
