All the Martha books are very good. If it is not obvious though, note that some are for
older children and some for true beginners. It was not as easy to figure out as it should be based
on the information given. My child enjoyed these most when she was 5-7.

I have several paperback versions from this chapter series (including this title, "A Pup's Tale") and highly recommend them for quality and readability. The pages are slick and heavyweight with crisp text and colorful illustrations. Pages and chapters are broken up into an appealing, manageable layout. The stories themselves are engaging and are the ideal reading level, interest level, and challenging length for my avid 6 year old reader. We read most of this book together, but it proved to be a great one for some independent reading as well.

I've found very few books that fit this criteria. The Mercy Watson series comes to mind, but a slightly easier read.

My observation/comparison of Martha books:
The Reader books average 300-500 words.
The Picture books average 500-1200 words.
The Chapter books average 4500-5000 words.

Buyer beware, however. I've found that the Kindle versions of these books to be terribly flawed.

if your child is a picky reader, then it is a good option. My son does not lie fiction, at all. This Martha series won his heart. It has a good vocabulary, pictures and storyline. Highly recommend. You may also want to try a "Puppy place" series.
