5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most unique metal bands ever, April 2, 2003

This guys just came outta no where to write some of the best thrash metal ever. No one before them and no one after has ever sounded like The Accused. Seattle had a good metal scene a couple of years before grunge took over, and The Accused were right at the top. If you've never checked out this band, this album is highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars IT ...SHREDS!, October 25, 2002

Really I don't think that I've heard anything quite like the Accused before (surprisingly they were from my hometown.) Blaine is a wild man on the vocals. Sounds like a cross between Mike Dean of COC (Animosity era) and HR of Bad Brains. Still this doesn't pin down the maniacal straining screams and howls he belts out. The music is very evil sounding in a kind of funny sense and the lyrics are great always bring a demented smile to my face. Guitars are almost metal sounding though the production makes the punk spirit shine through. If you don't know about these guys already buy this album. It is unfortunately the only item that is still in print by this lost punk band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Splatter Rock!!!, March 27, 2001

It's such a shame that this band has fallen into obscurity. Their early work, including this release, was absolutely groundbreaking in a strange gray area between thrash and punk. Don't know how they did it, but they encompassed both with ease. Heck, they were just brutally terrifying skate-rock for all I care. Exaggerated, and often humorous, screeching throat exercises (try to follow the lyric sheet for the first song!) topped off a blend of precise AND sloppy (how can that be?!) punk/metal riffage without an ounce of "cheese-factor". If nothing else, their tongue in cheek covers (as there are many here) will get you chuckling. This was an inebriated mess of a good time. Unfortunately, as soon as they got tight and slick-sounding in the early 90's, they became more metal than anything else - sometimes becoming even a parody of themselves - and their hunger, urgency, magic seemed to fade. I think this was their last great record. The stuff afterwards was good, but this was great fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Martha Splatterhead..., April 3, 2002

I like this one, but then again, I like anything by The Accused, the most underrated and forgotten Seattle band. This, by the way, is their third CD, and like I said, I like this one except for the packaging (incomplete song titles). This one and "More Fun..." are packaged like that. By the way, if anyone knows where I can get the first Accused CD (I think it's "Return of Martha Splatterhead"), email me. Thanks.

A chunk of absolute genius, when this first came out in lil' ole England my friends and I were addicted. Nearly 20 years later we still are. It shreds, it rocks, it has a sense of humour. What the hell else do you want?

4.0 out of 5 stars Accused - 'Martha Splatterhead's Maddest' (Relativity), August 4, 2007
I forgot ALL about these splatter-rock thrash metal henchmen. Classic 1991 release. I even saw The Accused on this very tour in some dumpy shack right outside the town of Lawrence, Kansas. I have to give this CD a four-star rating for their somewhat butchered cover of the Ten Years After gem, "I'd Love To Change The World" alone. Other tunes off this record I sort of liked were the frantic opener "Psychomania", "Sick Boy" and "Scared Of The Dark". Should draw in fans of Cro-Mags, S.O.D., Slayer, Carcass and D.R.I. Give this CD a spin if you dare.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glass-shard Gargle, August 10, 2011
This review is from: Martha Splatterhead's Maddest Stories Ever Told (Audio CD)
I originally found this LP while going through the used records at a hole in the wall back in the 90's. The psycho Jeff Gaither/R.K. Sloane cover grabbed my attention immediately. A green-faced punk demon chomping into the brains of a putrefying hippy, all surrounded by maggots and graves. Bought it just for the cover and it's was the best $5 I ever spent. The jams are insane. Ferocious riffs, eviscerating thrash, splatter lyrics, and the sickest ever throat abortions to rape your ears. Blaine's voice is liquid sandpaper, the ultimate glass-shard gargale.

"We won't go to bed hungry, no not tonight... flesh is so tender, won't need a knife... eatin' your buddies!!" Songs about horror, murder, suicide, cannibalism, insanity, rape, incest, and covers of GBH, Angry Samoans etc. Plus a killer version of "the hearse." I bought all their CD's and LP's after hearing this and highly recommend "Return of Martha Splatterhead," an earlier album with a raw punk edge but no less demented. Brutal.

the ultimate in punk/skate rock, The Accused are one of the best all time. Like so many of their time, they are long since gone, but oh well. Martha Splatterheads Maddest Stories...is one of their best albums ever.
