The Ospery series of these books follows a formula for success. Tell the historic story accurately and without excess verbage and give the reader great illustrations that have not seen over publication in other volumes. I can't say it much better than that, except the original color artworks in these publications are worth the cost of the ticket to ride!
If the Martin B-26 Marauder series is your interest, this book won't disappoint you unless you're seeking a detailed history of the units and aircraft throughout the Army Air Forces. That will require hundreds of pages and photos beyond the intended scope of these booklets. I give it five out of five.
The book arrived well wrapped and was delivered in a short time after placing my order. What more can the reader/buyer hope for? You won't be disappointed if you're looking for information on the "One A Day inTampa Bay"/"Widow Maker"!

This book is about one of my favorite airplanes. I have a few hours in the cockpit of a civilianized version of this great bomber and find Mr. Chorlton's research and presentation of the data regarding this piece of aviation history to be spot on. If you're interested in these great WWII bombers, you will enjoy this book. Thanks to Mr. Martyn Chorlton, for an hour or so of great memorys.

This book provides a basic overview of the B-26. As it is only 59 pages of text and pics, there isn't a whole lot of detail. It is however, well written and informative within that limitation. The pics are also nice, some I have not seen before. An Uncle won a DFC with the 320th BG as a Bomb/Nav, so the Marauder has always been an aircraft of interest for me.

Martin's Miscarriage. The Baltimore Whore. The Widowmaker. These are some of the nicknames that the Martin B-26 marauder medium bomber was saddled with. Mr.Chorlton' s book goes a long way towards correcting this view. The Marauder came into being in a relatively short time before America's entry into World War 2. Due to a shortage of multi-engine trainers, American pilots had to learn in the type that they were going to fly,and with the tricky performance characteristics of the B-26 that meant quite a few crashes and accidents. After design modifications and more flight training crews soon learned to swear by the plane instead of at it. This new found faith was eventually justified as the aircraft turned in one of the lowest combat loss rates of any American plane. Sadly in spite of an excellent combat record, the B-26 is all but forgotten, with the B-25 Mitchell and the Douglas A-26 Invader taking over most of the Marauder' s work. The final crushing irony being the Invader' s redesignation as the B-26. As part of the Osprey series of military books, this is a welcome addition to any aviation or World War 2 collection. There are plenty of photos and color illustrations of various models of the aircraft. My only regret is the short length of the book.

Nicely put together. I build models and use books like this to do a certain plane or get ideas and this book is loaded.

long list of serial numbers and upgrades. I'd have liked more operational history. In particular it would have been nice to have more comparisons with other Medium Bombers, US as well as Allied and Axis. The basic point you get from this book is "The Marauder got a Bad Rap from early problems with control." OTOH at the end of the war twice as many B25 Mitchells had been built and the Douglas (A/B)26, with which the Marauder was often confused, lasted into the 60s. Very little insight into as to why.

Interesting that torpedo bombing seemed to be a key part of the B26 mission in spite of very little success. (Especially when compared with the Japanese G4M and German Ju88). This may not be the B26's fault as we had well known torpedo issues early in the war and in retrospect the poor results at Midway may have had more to do with it being hard to prosecute an aerial torpedo attack unless you have air superiority: even a fast modern bomber like the B26 didn't fare well in a cloud of zeros (much less the TBDs later in the day -- at least 50% of the B26s made it home even if un-repairable).

Good points: the illustrations and photos are very helpful and displayed well on my Nexus tablet. A big frustration with reading military history on devices is that the maps and charts are usually unreadable, so a lot of thought care was given by the author and editors!

Very informative as to op's and sorties flown by different squadons in the ETO. Would like to have had more info on it's role in the pacific against the japanese. More stories from pilots and crew members on everyday operations would have added a nice touch. Photos are always good, and quite a few were included in the book. Overall I enjoyed reading about this aircraft and it's unusual introduction to combat without the benefit of comprehensive flight testing before being put into operation. I can't believe so few survived the scrap-yard at the end of the war.
